Aston Chicago Apartments

Aston is super nice - amazing doorman and less than a 15-minute walk from campus. We have in-unit laundry, which is a game changer, and a nice gym and a beautiful rooftop jacuzzi. AT&T's internet has been very reliable. Maintenance has been very prompt and does a good job.

Quiet and stylish, a bit pricey

Pros: Stylish and in good condition. It was completed ~2013 and has undergone renovations of all public spaces in the last ~year. Nice rooftop with areas to lounge, grill and a hot tub. Indoor pool but small. Private gym is quite good and includes a spa. HVAC, appliances, and water all work well. Maintenance staff is very responsive. Doormen are friendly and professional. Excellent soundproofing. Building attracts a generally quieter, somewhat older clientele. NBC and Gleacher are just out the front door and MPP/Metra/#6 bus are <10 minute walk. Runaway exercise studio is in the building next door.

Cons: A bit pricey. Not far from the hospital, so ambulance sirens. New shades recently installed in the units are too sheer--I bought an eye mask for sleeping. Construction is underway at the Tribune Building nearby--bit of a wild card what effect that will have on noise/dust, but it will definitely obscure the rooftop's view.

If you want a little distance from the MPP scene and a quieter, more polished spot, Aston is a solid choice.

Perfect location for Feinberg, almost feels like a small slice of a college town because so many of your neighbors will be students, residents, nurses, etc at the hospital. You do get sirens fairly often depending on where you live since the emergency room is very close. The neighborhood doesn't have too many restaurants/bars but it is walking distance to River North and Gold Coast and the rest of the city is easily accessed by public transport. Much safer than most neighborhoods in Chicago.
Streeterville is a very nice neighborhood. There are plenty of parks and grocery stores. There is some late night crime due to the location downtown and close to the beach, but overall nothing worse than anywhere else.

There are some more expensive restaurants and fast food places. Navy Pier attracts a lot of tourists and they can be annoying to navigate around.
I enjoy living in Streeterville since it's near many of Chicago attractions without feeling overwhelming like in the Loop. I am able to walk around safely at night and I like going jogging in Millennium Park. My biggest complaint would be the lack of greenery in the area and how the city can feel a little bit insulating at times. Public transportation is great. This area is pricey, which is why I decided to have a roommate.
The Streeterville area was still pretty sleepy when I moved here three years ago. Since then, there has been an incredible amount of development. New luxury apartments and condos are going up, several new restaurants, a brand new target and Whole Foods. Its become a great place for professionals who enjoy living downtown, but without the club crowds in River North.
There are a few buses that are near by that help get residents down to the loop. Also it's pretty easy to walk around and the cross walks are pedestrian friendly. I'm always able to get around by foot and buses/trains. Streeterville is a very safe neighborhood and I've never felt unsafe walking around at night. The streets are well lit.
Noise is not usually too big of an issue in this neighborhood; it's pretty quiet at night.
There are multiple grocery stores nearby for multiple choices. Also there are a bunch of great places to eat so one will not get bored with options.
While on the expensive end in Chicago, streeterville is safe, has all the necessities (look for apts near grocery stores if you don't have a car!!), is super close to school (and most feinberg students so convenient for socializing), and is super close proximity to restaurants and bars.
This building is located in the center of everything you could possibly need. Whole foods and Jewel within walking distance, easy to get to the lake front, and plenty of good restaurants and bars. The only down side is that it does not really have a "neighborhoody" feel.
Love how close we are to the medical school, makes going to class really easy. A lot of students live in Streeterville so it is very easy to hangout with friends. There are also a few coffee shops in the neighborhood that are very fun to study at!
