Downtown Raleigh

Full of Arts, Entertainment, and Nightlife
Downtown Raleigh is the city's source of culture, entertainment, and nightlife. The area offers plenty of bars and restaurants and is also home to North Carolina State University. It's one of the three cities in The Triangle, which also includes Chapel Hill and Durham, so there's also a lot happening in nearby areas.

Popular spots include Fox Liquor Bar, Slims Downtown Distillery, and Beasley's Chicken + Honey. As with most cities in the south, the people are always friendly and the pace is slower so you can easily find time to unwind and relax.

Downtown Raleigh — 8.9/10 Rating (based on 30 neighborhood reviews)
I love living in downtown. I am originally from a small town, so being able to walk to all of the restaurants downtown has been an amazing experience. Also it's a quick drive to any grocery store of your choice (wegmans, aldi, harris teeter, food lion, lidel, publix, etc.). I also live within a 3 minute walk of the school, so being able to run home if I forgot my notes or book was a great positive to being so close! I will mention that I did get rides after my night classes during the winter months, as the walk isn't well lit at night.

I have walked home late some nights and have never felt unsafe. The Lincoln is very close to several bars and restaurants. The City Market area is a fun place to hang out and go shopping. Before COVID, there was an open air market there every Wednesday.

The Hue is in the middle of downtown Raleigh. There are lots of places to eat and bars to go to around the apartment but they aren't so close that it is bothersome to live there. Everything is close but a perfect walking distance away.

Super close to tons of food places, bars, a grocery store, and down the street from basically anything you’d need. Downtown Raleigh can be a little rough sometimes so just be careful walking alone when it’s late!

I love Raleigh, I think it's a perfect example of "big city, small town feel." The food is great, the bar scene is what you make of it, and there is plenty of accessible sidewalk.

The people are great, but being in the city can be a little scary when walking. Luckily I've never felt too scared or worried during my walks to and from school.

Downtown is what you would think if would be, a lot going on! Safer than the downtowns I'm used to (Little Rock, AR & Memphis,TN) so I've never felt uncomfortable being out in the city and I don't know that many peopld I know have either! Lots to do and see!

I’ve never had a bad experience where I am, and I’m really close to a lot of shops and restaurants. I also feel very safe because we’re one block from a fire station and a police station. It’s quiet, but still close enough to downtown bars!

Living in the Warehouse District is both fun and annoying. There are lots of things to do and the restaurants are great. However, the trains are quite loud and on the weekends the streets are loud due to people wandering around.

The apartment shares a street with many government buildings and another with Peace University and Historic Raleigh. Overall, it's a safe neighborhood, and walking distance to many things. But there closest social scene is Glenwood Ave and it's easier to drive there.

This part of downtown is almost exclusively businesses and government buildings. Good restaurants within walking distance as well as several bars. The neighborhood is not close to any grocery stores or other places in case you need to run out and grab something for the apartment.
