Downtown Gainesville
Bustling Business District
Downtown Gainesville is located less than a mile East of the University of Florida campus, and is most well known for its upscale bars and restaurants. Locals and students love visiting The Arcade Bar and High Dive on the weekends, but can also be found frequenting The Top, OAK, and other unique to Gainesville restaurants.
The Downtown area has developed recently, and new and renovated hotels and apartments can be found sprinkled throughout the area. The area can get busy, but is overall more relaxed than Midtown and tends to be a place for students and Gainesville locals to come together.
Things to do in the area include listening to live music at Bo Diddley Plaza, catching a play at the Hippodrome, or visiting one of the award winning restaurants or unique shops and boutiques. There are also various events throughout the year that bring crowds in from all over!

Downtown Gainesville —
8.7/10 Rating
(based on 7 neighborhood reviews)
The neighborhood is located in downtown Gainesville and has many places to go to. It can be loud sometimes, outside, at night but that may be due to where my apartment is within the complex.

There is a Publix and Target within walking distance, and plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby as well. Within the Continuum, it feels safe because of the gates and other security measures. There are some slightly 'sketchier' areas nearby.

Some parts of the neighborhood are well maintained but there are spots where it isn't well lit at all.

Love living downtown- there’s so much to do in walking distance (restaurants, bars, depo park) and it doesn’t feel like a college down. And I’m still a quick drive to campus

Arlington Square
Reasonably safe, in the middle of downtown Gainesville. Literally walking distance to bars, restaurants, and pool halls.

On University Ave, so not in a neighborhood. The rating is because it can be loud due to location.
