North Druid Hills —
7.9/10 Rating
(based on 133 neighborhood reviews)
It's a prime location for getting around the city! I can get to midtown, Decatur, inman park, etc. in about a 20 min drive or less. The drive to school each morning is about 10-15 mins with little to no traffic. The area is safe with tons of restaurants and shopping. The only downside is that it's not close to any prime nightlife scene, but Ubers aren't too expensive. Incredibly safe which is something I was looking for as a woman living alone. There's no perfect place, but for the amount of space I have (850 sq ft), safety, proximity to school, and easy access to other areas in the city, it can't be beat.

Nice neighborhood, fairly quiet. Many single family homes and townhouses with apartment complexes sprinkled in. Decent selection of restaurants. Easy access to other ATL neighborhoods (15-20 min max to anywhere you want to go) without paying as much. Kind of a haul to MARTA train stops though.

Very convenient location as far being somewhat close to a lot of different areas though it itself isn't where the night life or all the best restaurant areas are. Lots of grocery options very close by, including Whole Foods, Krogers and Publix.

The really isn't much for an MBA student to do in this neighborhood. Outside of Campus Crossing and nearby Post Briarcliff it feels pretty suburban and residential (safe though). There are a few parks within a short driving distance which are nice for walks. However, basically all social life for MBAs seem to take place elsewhere. No social or night life really in North Druid Hills.

A very large conservative Jewish community is in the neighborhood so its fantastic to see the large crowds going to synagogue on Saturdays, plus I've been able to learn a lot about their religion by conversing with my neighbors.
It is a bit of a walk to the Kroger and restaurants over there, but it is something nice to do on occasion. Having Whole Foods here is fantastic, pricey but the convenience is great. Plenty of other friendly dogs in the area and a ton of young professionals, graduate students, and younger families. Keep reading
Post Briarcliff
North Druid Hills is an up and coming neighborhood. I've been here on and off since 2007 when I attended Emory University, and then full time after I graduated and got a job.
Over the past two years though, it's begun undergoing the biggest changes. The old, single family homes are being bought up at a fast clip and bulldozed in favor of new townhomes and grand single family homes, lifting the neighborhood value significantly. We've also had more upscale retailers like Fresh Market move in further adding to the upscale quality. This will definitely be a neighborhood to watch over the next few years. It's going to become a new Brookhaven, I think. Keep reading

The neighborhood is nice, quiet, and safe. It is close to Emory but not so close that the proximity is driving prices too high, which I appreciate. It has a residential feel and lots of trees. It also has a lot of restaurants within walking distance or within a very short drive of where I live.

It's an open area with trees. Very close to Emory campus as well as the Toco Hills plaza (Kroger, Publix, many restaurants). Further down Clairmont at the intersection with North Decatur road, there's another Publix as well as some other restaurants in the plaza.
Golden Drop Cafe--which has outdoor seating incase the pandemic is still uncontrolled when you read this--is just 3 min. down the road. Mason Mill Park, which has tennis courts, a pavillion, and walking trails, is also very near. Keep reading

This isn't a neighborhood, so no experience to speak of. It's an apartment complex off of the highway with office buildings all around it. I wouldn't say it's family friendly, but it's conveniently located for a student. I didn't want to be around all of my classmates constantly (at Post) so this creates some distance where you can be more choosy about which events you attend.

This is where the wealthy in ATL live, and a lot of great restaurants, bars, and little locales are near or in North Druid Hills. Main thing is that a car is absolutely necessary to get around. Public transportation is too sporadic and unreliable to get anywhere consistently.
Uber and Lyft are options, but if you're coming from a large metro area with small wait times for ride-sharing, be prepared to wait upwards of 15-20 minutes for your ride on select days because of road congestion/traffic/driver unavailability. Keep reading
