Old Town

Home to Colonial Architecture, Boutiques and Restaurants
If you want to be away from the fast and loud city life, Old Town is the place to be. Filled with cobblestone streets, colonial homes, churches and museums, Old Town is a quiet and charming neighborhood on the banks of the Potomac River in Alexandria. A walk on the King Street displays Old Town's popular shops, boutiques and restaurants.

The area is very safe although it does not have the same nightlife as downtown DC. However, getting to downtown DC from here is no problem as it only takes 15 minutes via the King Street Metro. You'll be hard pressed to find many complaints about this neighborhood.

Old Town — 7.9/10 Rating (based on 35 neighborhood reviews)
I love the neighborhood. Although Old Town is in the suburbs, it feels like like a mini city, and almost everywhere I want to go is within walking distance. There are great restaurants and bars a few blocks, we're close to the river, there are multiple parks nearby. There is a Whole Foods a block away from my building, and it takes me less than 10 minutes to walk to the King Street Metro station. I also have a dog, and there are so many dog parks and dog-friendly businesses in the area.

Neighborhood is rather safe but they are constantly doing construction in the area. Limited street parking available for guest(s) — no free guest parking available.

Old Town is great! So many restaurants, bars, shopping, parks, and hiking. Easy to walk to all the shops on King Street, and super close (walkable) to two metro stops, Braddock Road and King Street. Commute to Foggy Bottom via metro is only about 30 minutes, and it is a straight trip on the blue line from Braddock Road to Foggy Bottom-GWU.

Old Town is a cute area with lots of shopping and great restaurants. It's not as busy or loud as DC and can be more affordable. Getting into DC is easy with two metro stop options. Some cons would be that it doesn't have extensive nightlife options if that's what your into. However, it's a perfect option for a more low-key night that DC bars.

Great neighborhood that is close to restaurants and shopping. Not a lot within walking distance unless you live in the heart of Old Town (which we don't) but we are also relatively close to DC. Short Uber ride, great place to consider if you've never lived in the area before.

The Del Ray neighborhood is very cute. Lots of mom and pop type stores and restaurants. Small town feel. Very young couple with new baby and dog type of place.

There is a pretty unsafe area right next to the neighborhood, so be careful. Also, there is no metro nearby.
