Convenience is a luxury in this neighborhood, with groceries, fast dining, and coffee shops, such as Krogers and Starbucks, located just 10-20 minutes away on foot. Upper Canal — 7.9/10 Rating (based on 14 neighborhood reviews)
Nice neighborhood. Down the street from IUPUI, Kroger etc. The canal is nice. There is a park within walking distance and some other restaurants on the canal.

It's a gated community and there are 4 courtesy officers. It's definitely nice during the day around the canal and area, but avoid going out alone at night (people get mugged on the canal at night, but that's true in a lot of secluded places around Indy at night). There's a park for kids right across the canal if you have kids. There's a few take out options a 5 min drive away and a 20 min walk to downtown. Love how close it is to Kroger (7 min walk) and campus (15 min walk).

Canal gets sketchy at night but fencing helps me feel safe in my apartment as well of door code to enter building. Easy access to canal (restaurants, coffee, scenery). Quick 10-15 min walk to campus

The neighborhood is nice and we are close to many things. The only problem I have ever had was that the catalytic converter was stolen off my car. This was when my car was parked on the street though and not in the lot provided by my apartment. My building has officers that live on site and patrol the area.

I love being outside rather its running, walking, or sun bathing and being so close to the canal is perfect. There are wide sidewalks going around the whole canal which leads you to White River State park and the Indianapolis Zoo. There are also quite a few museums around the canal if that sparks your interest. Mass Ave and downtown are also within walking distance with safe paths. With being so close to the hustle and bustle of the city it can be loud at times especially in the summer when more people are on the canal and out later, however, you get used to it if you aren’t already.

It's right on the canal which is nice when you want to go for a walk during the day. It's not somewhere I would walk around at night alone, but you wouldn't do that anywhere in Indy.

Close to school and hospitals but have to drive for pretty much everything (pharmacy, gym, grocery, food etc). Honestly if you don’t mind commuting a bit there are livelier neighborhoods to live in. That being said it is pretty good for focusing and a relatively quiet area for downtown.

Great location to the school and campus. MLK Drive gets really backed up during rush hours and would not walk anywhere except in broad daylight.
