Outdoor Space, Shopping, and Charming Homes

Known as the city's garden district and residential powerhouse, East Memphis borders Midtown and is home to tree lined neighborhoods, boutique shopping, and is a growing hub for Fortune 500 company offices. Residents enjoy plenty of green space including Shelby Farms Park, one of the nation's largest urban parks, located at the end of Memphis’ 11-mile Shelby Farms Greenway. The area also boasts commercial centers like the Oak Court Mall and the myriad of restaurants along Poplar Avenue.

East Memphis offers a much more suburban feel which is why, with less than a 25-minute drive Downtown, plenty of residents take advantage of the lower cost of living and enjoy quieter evenings at home. Many East Memphis residents are University of Memphis undergrad students because of its proximity to campus.

East Memphis is great. It is safe and generally pretty quiet, but you are close to downtown and midtown with plenty to do. Make sure you know the area you are looking at renting is safe. Memphis can change drastically from one block to the next.

Safe area. Memphis has some sketchy places no matter what area you’re in, but east Memphis has felt like a nice place with good value.

Have lived in the University District for 8 years and have always loved it. Plenty of things to do and close enough to walk to. Always felt safe being close to UofM. Their police patrol our neighborhood as well as city police.
