Hough
"Historic and Redeveloping"
Located just off the shore of Lake Erie, Hough is a hotspot for Ohio summers to relax and enjoy waterfront views. Although not many restaurants and bars in the area, the surrounding neighborhoods are just a short drive away. Head Downtown or to Cleveland Heights for some late-night entertainment and bites to eat that will be worth the extra mile. Most locals commute by car or public transportation to get around, with bike lanes available but not known for being the most walkable.
There are lots of museums and cultural attractions nearby, such as The Dunham Tavern Museum which remains the oldest standing building in the city of Cleveland. Also be sure to check out League Park, originally a baseball stadium and located in the center of Hough, which has now taken on a new life as a baseball museum, and sports education center.

Located very close to the HEC, a moderate walk or quick drive to university circle. Good for graduate students. Not much night life in the area, but not far from Little Italy and downtown. Quiet area best suited well for focusing on academics. Grocery stores and gas stations close.

As a canadian, this is quite an unsafe neighbourhood. The building itself is secure but outside of it is not and i don’t feel comfortable even during the day. It is not something that should stop someone from renting here, just something to be aware of.

There are two apartment buildings on this street with all other residence being houses. The apartment building is close to a busy street but is far enough that you can't hear traffic. It is a relatively quiet neighborhood with the occasional sounds of motorcycles or helicopters that are going to and from the Cleveland Clinic hospital.

The neighborhood has everything you could need within walking distance. It is important to be vigilant of your surroundings, especially at night.
My only hesitation is that the neighborhood is being heavily gentrified, of which this new apartment building is contributing to. Being from out of state, I was unaware of this until I moved in and got a feel for the area. Driving around it is very evident the separation of the original neighborhood and the new one being built in its space. Something to consider/be socially aware of how you’re contributing to it when picking an apartment in an unfamiliar city. Keep reading
Axis at Ansel
The apt in is located on 101st and is between Innova and Axis on Ansel. Good CWRU Police presence so you feel secure. Across the street from student parking so it's easy to walk between here and HEC. Quick walk to the old med school and the rest of Case's campus. About 10 min walk to Wade Oval Lagoon. The other neighbors are either working at Cleveland Clinic or are med students/dental students mostly.

There's not a lot to do in the immediate vicinity, however there are a couple of restaurants (Penn Station, Fluffy Duck, Urban Kitchen) and a pharmacy on the first floor. There's more space for other shops/restaurants to open in the future. Plus, there's a Rite Aid right across the street, and the convenient walk to both UH and CCF are great!

The neighborhood that I interact with is closer to University circle than the typical Glenville neighborhood since I am on the edge of Glenville. The neighborhood has multiple single-family homes nearby (many occupied but some are dilapidated or remain as empty land lots). There are also some multi-room apartments around. Safety varies drastically depending on direction and time of day.

Below average around campus. Not easily walking distance to grocery store. Would benefit from car in that regard. 10 minute walk to some restaurants and CWRU HEC and pharmacy (that I don't recommend sending scripts to). Near Cleveland clinic. If you're looking for the college feel of being able to walk everywhere, Hough isn't really that vibe. Parts of Hough are fine, others are struggling with many abandoned buildings. Edges of neighborhood are being gentrified so it's a weird dynamic of foreclosed homes and mansions on the same block. Doesn't receive as much Cleveland money is it should. For example streets are in rough shape. But has some nice parks and right next to the university circle amenities/parks/museums.

The surrounding neighborhood is not ideal, but I have never felt unsafe as a resident. If you travel in the right directions, there should not be a problem. I run outside by myself during the day and have always felt perfectly safe. There have been a very small number of incidents outside of the complex at night, but the building is secure and if you avoid walking outside alone at night then it shouldn't be a concern. I would qualify the HEC/Cleveland Clinic campus/University Circle more as my "neighborhood" than Hough itself since that is where I spend most of my time.

Very close to the school and clinic. Other than that there isn’t too much to do- it’s mostly the medical buildings. There are a few places to eat and CWRU main campus is within walking distance. The grocery stores that I like in Cleveland (Trader Joe’s and Giant Eagle) are a bit of a drive ~25 minutes. The closest target and Walmart and also a ~15 minute drive.

The neighborhood of Fairfax near the Cleveland Clinic isn't the most safe neighboorhood, but the security of Innova helps make me feel safe at home. They are opening a pizza place in the building and a new hotel with a restaurant and bar just opened this year next door. There is also a coffee shop/bakery and a American restaurant in the building.

Right now, hough isn't that great. Thankfully Innova has restaurants in the building, because there isn't much else around here. In the building, there's a cafe, health restaurant, sandwich shop, pharmacy, and casual restaurant. Innova is literally across the street from the new medical school, and they're planning on expanding to have even more restaurants in the building.

I live in a very nice apartment building adjacent to some older, mid-income houses. However, a few blocks away are housing projects where shootings are common. I feel perfectly fine walking around the few blocks where I live during the day, but I would be very hesitant to walk in the other direction at night. The neighborhood is changing quickly though and this information may be soon outdated.
