Old Town
A Unique Experience
Home to men and women from all walks of life, Old Town is a wildly popular and historic neighborhood located close to the lake and downtown. Day or night, Old Town has an energetic and vibrant feel. In accordance with its name, there are plenty of Victorian style buildings to accompany other historical styles of architecture. Nevertheless, there are a large amount of new and modern buildings which helps to give Old Town a very unique feel.

Old Town —
8.9/10 Rating

Old town is amazing and full of young professionals. If you don’t mind a commute into campus it’s the best.

I love Old Town for its amazing restaurant choices. That and it is beautiful to walk through (Old Town Triangle and side streets). It is wonderful being close to the beach and walking distance to downtown. One of the things I am not particularly fond of is the "Brotastic" atmosphere at most of the bars but it goes with the territory.

Old Town is the best neighborhood in Chicago! We are situated perfectly within all the best Chicago has to offer, everything is super close and walkable, and there is so much to do! It is a historical area where you can learn more about the city's history before the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, and also grab drinks and dinner at fun restaurants!

The neighborhood could be more secure to be honest. There have been a few times where I would not want to walk alone at night--and I'm a guy that can fend for himself. I recommend having a car or an escort instead of walking alone at night. But overall its really not bad.

There are plenty of grocery stores in the neighborhood with feasible prices for the city which is nice. Additionally, there are plenty of fast food as well as restaurants in this area and a great bar scene as well. There's always something to do.

Old Town is my favorite Chicago neighborhood. It's between Lincoln park and River North both physically and in terms of the bar scene. Old Town bars and restaurants are a little more low-key than RN, but still super fun and lively.

Fantastic as long as you don't mind activity, it isn't quiet or sleepy by any means. Some safety concerns on the western edge but no actual issues so far, just nightly police activity and groups of rowdy teenagers that sometimes get into fights. Restaurants, bars, grocery, transit - all amazing.

What Old Town might lack in Michelin-rated restaurants, it makes up for in a seemingly endless variety of well above average choices. It's been over a year, and we've only managed to visit maybe half the restaurants and bars on our list, and we go out at least weekly. The only drawbacks to the neighborhood are 1) the entitled people you'll run into from time to time, and 2) that you should be careful walking around by yourself at night.

The neighborhood is a prime location for people in their mid-twenties. Their is tons of families, dogs, restaurants and things to do in the area. For grocery you can walk to Plum Market or Treasure Island, there is also a Walgreens very close by, as well as every type of restaurant you could want on Wells.
The transportation is also great, you are placed right between the brown line @ Sedgwick, and the 156/LaSalle bus that takes you right downtown. You can rent a divvy near by or grab a cab pretty easily. The street is permit parking and I can always find a spot. Keep reading

Love the neighborhood, very quiet but also a lot to do. The only con is that grocery stores are either a 15min walk or 15min bus ride away, although there are smaller markets closer. Getting to school is very easy, about 20-25 min door to door on one of the bus lines.

Love how safe it is and how much there is to do. However, it can be a hassle to get to school if you don't have a car just because you need to change trains. Average age of the neighborhood ranges from college age (DePaul is close) to early 50s - with most people being in late 20s/early 30s.
