We love it here!

We have had a really great experience at Naval Square. The facilities are top notch and the buildings are all new and very comfortable. The management is on top of things and visitors often comment that the common areas feel like a hotel. The swimming pool and large field out front has been a great place for our toddler to play and to meet other people.

The only downside is that since it's a pretty large complex, it takes a while to get out while walking. For example, a "quick" walk to South Street Market is probably 10 minutes or so. Obviously, this depends on where you are within the complex. So it's close enough to Center City where you feel like you're close, but definitely far enough to have the space but also lack some of the conveniences of being embedded in the city.

Great!

Phenomenal spot for families. Hard to get into, and can be expensive, but it is well worth it. Cannot imagine life another way here in Philly.

Suburban Living in Center City

Excellent location for accessing both Penn Medicine hospitals or downtown. All the amenities you'd want (gym, pool, package concierge, security). Included parking (covered for some units) and available guest parking is extremely valuable and competitive with luxury high-rises that often charge $200+ additional per month for parking. Community of young professionals with lots of kids and dogs. Inside the walls, very quiet and peaceful, like living in the suburbs in the middle of the city (this can feel odd/disjointed to some, I find it a feature). Different floorplans available to suit taste, including townhomes and more traditional condos.

Main con: very poor sound proofing between floors (hear foot/pawsteps of upstairs neighbors) -- this would not be an issue on top floor units.

Townhome in Naval Square

Fantastic place to live - awesome community with great neighbors. Great for families and a nice suburban feel while being only blocks away from the busier parts of Center City.

A piece of suburbia near downtown Philly

Overall, Naval Square is a great place to live if you want somewhere close to Penn/CHOP/HUP and is easy to get to Center City. The complex has a very suburban feel, with new construction, manicured lawns and flower beds, and an HOA that sometimes makes you feel like you’re one of the Stepford Wives. Many units include garage or outdoor parking as well as a storage unit. There is a concierge to accept packages and the complex is very pet-friendly.

Downsides include that it’s relatively pricey for Grad Hospital, and that the soundproofing between floors is very poor, so if you’re the kind of person who likes to play loud music or have parties late at night, this is not the complex for you. The complex itself is very much geared towards families and older couples who want peace and quiet at night. The HOA/management can also be very strict when it comes to enforcing rules and regulations for the complex, so keep that in mind as well.

The Best Place in Philly to live with kids or a dog

The description says it all. 10 minute bike ride or 25 minute walk to campus, a large grass field for kids and dogs to run on, a pool, gym, and vibrant community of young families and couples makes this - bar none- the best place in Philly for Wharton or Penn Med/Law students to live in.

Perfect for families

Amazing place to live, especially if you have a family or if you don't want to live in a high rise but would like a nice gated community. There are a good amount of Penn Med and CHOP & HUP Residents that live here. There are always a few Wharton/Penn Law students as well. All together, it has a real neighborhood community feel while having the convenience of being very close to the bars and restaurants of Center City. There condos themselves are modern and spacious. The one slight negative, however, is that the pricing is higher than I expected. Naval Square is a better value than some of the high rises in Center City, but it's ALOT more expensive than comparable townhomes 1-2 blocks away. That said, you end up paying a high premium to be within the gated community, which says a lot about the consistent demand to live here.

Perfect mix of Suburban and Downtown

Outstanding gated community within walking distance of Center City but still separate enough to get some peace and quiet. The community amenities (which include a pool, gym, and being incredibly pet friendly) are outstanding. One of the best places in Philly to live in!

Great for families

-Nice condos/townhouses
-Lots of open grass for kids to play
-There are also a fair number of Wharton families (mostly Veterans) that live in Naval Square and the community is close-knit
-The only downside is that it is somewhat removed from Rittenhouse Square, making it more difficult to meet up with people in that area (and your walk to and from campus will likely be different too)
-But, overall, I would definitely recommend it for those with families

This neighborhood feels like a small, tight-knit community - I see friends around the neighborhood all the time! Once I lost my wallet nearby and a complete stranger tracked down my email to return it to me, with nothing missing. I love living here!
Quiet, friendly neighborhood with lots of grocery stores, convenience stores, and small restaurants nearby.
This small neighborhood is just south of Naval Square and offers an affordable alternative to Rittenhouse for those seeking a larger living space. The streets are very narrow but generally offer decent parking. The nearby power plant produces some mechanical hum, but never strange smells or smoke. The neighborhood is very close to the South Street bridge, offering excellent bike and foot access to UPenn and the Schuylkill River Trail. The neighbors are a combination of med school residents, nurses, and other local Philadelphians. The neighborhood has a safe feel and is generally very quiet.
Close to campus, relatively quiet, some restaurants nearby, only nearby grocery store is overpriced, lots of vets and pet stores, nice place for young professionals
Devil's Pocket is a cute , primarily residential neighborhood within walking distance to Rittenhouse House Square and University City.
Graduate Hospital/ Devil's Pocket is exploding with growth, including new local grocers, parks and green space. A great community
Highly residential and quiet. Not a lot of restaurants/bars in the immediate area, but plenty of options a short walk away.
Slowly gentrifying, with some good community and local business sponsored programming at the nearby Grays Ferry Triangles.
