It’s Alright, but there’s Better Options Out There

Approximately half of the units are renovated. I can only speak to renovated units. Overall the apartment is nice. Updated electrical appliances, new flooring, carpets are professionally cleaned before move-in, washer and dryer are included, etc. Parking is free, and the complex is conveniently located near Southport Road for shopping retail, gas stations, and hospital for emergencies.

In terms of cost/value, I would say the units are a little overpriced, and if rent continues rising, the cost exceeds the value derived from them.

The one other caution I would make: there is moderate drug use among people living in this area, and a high number of registered sex offenders (I didn’t learn about this until after I moved in).

There are a decent number of families in the area and a daycare center immediately next to the complex. (Be mindful of children given the number of sex offenders.)

It’s a fine area for graduate students who need a place to live, though I wouldn’t recommend it for families, those with higher income, or couples who can afford higher rent (given that there are many places that are much nicer).
