Three going on four years here

I've lived in Pittsburgh for six years prior to starting medical school here, and I've moved to new apartments each year for the first 4 years. So far, however, I've been in Essex House for three years and just renewed my lease for a fourth year. I lived in a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment in this building before, and for school I moved into a 1-bedroom, 1-bathroom. The floor plans are extremely generous, including many closets, lots of kitchen counter space, a walk-in closet, and a large balcony. There is also a pool and gym in the apartment complex. While I live in a traditional apartment with carpeting, there are fully renovated units with hardwood flooring. Management is extremely responsive, though I haven't had to call them for much since the apartments are well-maintained. Residents are very friendly and consist of individuals and families of all structures and ages. There are two grocery stores and a bus stop right across the street, and Walnut Street (with shops and restaurants) is only a few streets away. There is also a parking lot and garage for those with cars, though I cannot comment on these services.

East Liberty Reviews

5 reviews
On the border of East Liberty and Friendship. Amazing location. On the bus route (20 min commute to school), walking distance from multiple grocery stores and a local gym, and easy access to fun bars/ restaurants. Also a great place to walk/run. I love living here! Recommend it to anyone who doesn’t want to live near school and wants a neighborhood of more than just Pitt students.
Diverse, can be loud, largely gentrified area. Neighborhood feel around the apartment.
Lots of nice people, older population
There are two grocery stores and a bus stop right across the street, which makes it very convenient to buy groceries and commute to/from school. While there aren't too many attractions in the immediate surroundings, there are many restaurants and shops on Walnut Street (10 minute walk away) and further down the street (10 minute walk in another direction). While the bus ride only takes about 30 minutes from the apartment to school, I usually wait outside about 45 minutes before class begins to ensure I don't miss the bus.
East Liberty is an up and coming neighborhood with a lot of great restaurants, bars, and other things to experience. Great for young professionals looking for a place in Pittsburgh.
