Very spacious & good amenities

While you can find cheaper 1 br in a building, lofts 640 truly is the best bang for your buck. Pool and hot tub are only open til 11 pm, but gym is being improved on with new perks (free trainer). The North Broad stretch is up and coming, with new bars, apartments. You feel the city living without the true traffic/chaos since Fairmount is still a residential area.

Love it!

I moved here more out of necessity than desire -- I needed an affordable apartment with a secure parking lot. Lofts 640 has delivered more than I could have expected! Quiet, nice amenities, helpful staff. Love it here! Perhaps most notable is the amount of space you get for your dollar -- way more than any other building in the area or, most likely, the city.

Quiet and Clean

This building is constructed of solid concrete, which is nice, because it helps to muffle the noise from neighbors. The ceilings are high, with large windows and gives it a modern feel. The windows however, are not insulated well at all, and in the winter, they let in a lot of air. The forced AC/Heat work, but since the vent is fairly high on the wall, the heat just rises, and it runs constantly trying to keep the apartment at a 63 degrees in the winter. The gym is great for an apartment building, however, it does get cramped when you have people trying to use jump ropes, Pilates, and other routines that take up floor space. BUT, there is a pilates/Yoga studio space. Overall, this is a really nice community to live in, and management is very cooperative and helpful. The building offers social gatherings for residents, and holiday parties.

High ceilings with attached garage parking!

The building is a converted warehouse space, which gives you high ceilings and big open rooms. Depending on how high up you are and which direction you face, you get more or less sunlight through the huge windows. The kitchens are updated, and the amenities are great. Decent sized gym with 5 treadmills and weight machines, and a trainer that does free classes and will do a nutrition plan for you (for a fee). There is a rooftop deck that is very under used, and an indoor pool and hot tub. The rent includes a parking space in a garage that is attached to the building, and after 6:30, you need a gate remote to get onto site. The gate also has a walk-in entrance that requires a fob, and the lobby has a person at the desk at all times, so it is very safe. Right across the street is Alla Spina, and attached is Osteria, both are great Vetri restaurants. 309 South and Vie are also across the street.

More space for less money at Lofts 640! Convenient, high quality, close to many restaurants and center city.

The building is incredibly safe, conveniently located close to all of the Fairmount St shops and a short walk to center city. Next to three wonderful restaurants (one is in the building!), with a very helpful security system. Also provides a (small, but nice) gym, hot tub, pool, and rooftop deck with a 180 degree view of downtown Philadelphia. Maintenance always responds to any requests within 24 hours (usually much sooner) and keeps the building spotless. Dry cleaning can also be dropped off at the front desk twice a week. Located in a converted factory, giving every apartment an open floor plan and very high ceilings, the look is very chic and clean. Very easy access to the highways for any partners working out of the city. It is a quiet, welcoming, safe neighborhood near several schools and very close to other Philadelphia landmarks (2 blocks from the inquirer building, 1 mile from the art museum, less than a mile from Logan square). The apartment is also full of professional students and young professionals and families from all around Philadelphia, making for a convenient social environment. People often spend time on the roof and there are also gatherings such as a holiday party that allow people to meet their fellow residents.

Very quaint, quiet neighborhood. Hear some kids in the morning playing in the street in the summer but that's about it. Lots of people walking dogs. The kind of people who will shovel your sidewalk when it snows without you asking. Really great crowd around here with good parks, I have always felt safe with the exception of a few areas north of where I live.
I couldn’t love my neighborhood more! Close to center city but outside the hustle. Next to the art museums and park. Wonderful neighbors, great local businesses, and a strong sense of community.
Love my neighborhood, its a bit quiet but still has tons of places to eat and drink.
When I first moved to Philadelphia (from out of state) I lived in a building in Center City because I wanted the central location closer to non-school activities and thought it might be safer. Now that I've moved, I vastly prefer Fairmount/Spring Garden. CC, especially where I lived, was very loud. Groceries can be a bit of a pain because I don't have a car (although this is improved now that there is a new Trader Joe's ~5 blocks away on Arch and a new CVS at Spring Garden!) I think it is about pretty much as safe as CC - fewer people around, which can go either way, but more residential and in a really beautiful area especially west of Broad St. Compared to CC there isn't quite as much to do, but there are still some bars and restaurants and there are relatively close coffee shops to study at if that's your thing. Lots of other students live in the area as well.
Fairmount is an excellent area to live in. It is walking distance to the Schuylkill trail, great for biking to work, exercising or relaxing by the river. The area has great restaurants, easy-to-find parking and an excellent massive Whole Foods with 4 restaurants inside. It is also very easy to walk to downtown Philly (15-40 min walk for most of Center City and University City).
Pros: close-knit neighborhood where residents look out for each other and know each others' names, lots of families and students, low noise, walkable to Girard and Fairmount BSL stops, close to Fairmount Ave shops and restaurants, overall v. safe feel

Cons: be careful and use common sense walking around Girard and Broad at night - some blocks are sketchier than others
The Fairmount area is a great place to live. It is close to a lot of the city's attractions and art, and equally close to some great outdoor space. The neighborhood is generally pretty quiet, and parking is easier than in Center City. There are a lot of coffee shops, restaurants, and pubs within easy walking distance. There are a lot of neighborhood events, especially in the summer, that are great to attend. The major downfall (if you see it that way) is the city run events that happen at the art museum from time to time. These really close down the neighborhood and make parking and driving really hard. But, they are usually fun to attend or spectate.
I absolutely loves the location. Easy walk to work, good food options ranging from fine dining to late-night pizza to bars. It's close to a Whole Foods and a local family owned market called Kleins. Unfortunately, Fairmount is only assessable by bus. City Hall and 30th Street Station is a 30 minute walk away if you need to take the MFL or Regional Rail lines.
