ParkPacific Apartments Review
Living close to the school is always nice. Having parking next to the school is additionally nice.
Living next to 4-5 separate court houses is valuable and can be utilized for viewing and experience.
Be prepared for city living: it is loud all the time (cars, horns, sirens), people are always around, you are far from a Wal mart, and the parking garage is small.

Fantastic Location, but difficult Management
As far as the downtown area is concerned, Park Pacific is the most affordable, plus you cannot beat its proximity to the law school. That said, it is a glorified law school dorm - sometimes with all the fixings of a typical dorm environment.
The building opened in 2013 (I believe). From my non-law school affiliated friends in the building, I hear that the building used to be fantastic, with diligent cleaning crews and beautifully shined marble floors in the lobby. I suspect that since the law school moved downtown, management has recognized that they have no need with such upkeep because they switched their focus from catering to professionals working in the downtown area to the fresh out of college law students who are only concerned with location and price. Knowing that there is a fresh crop of law students moving each year, the building no longer feels the need to keep the building clean, pristine, and maintained.
For example, last month (February 2021) when we had a week of extremely cold weather, a pipe burst. These things happen when extreme cold - EXCEPT for that fact that apparently a resident had been warning maintenance of this leaking pipe since sometime during the Fall 2020 semester.
In my unit, where I have lived for two years, there has been a window that cannot be opened because it is not actually attached the building. It will fall out onto the sidewalk if opened. Building management has said they have arranged for a contractor to fix it three times - no one has ever come to fix it. My washer and dryer was replaced with used ones of the same brand in October. By December, they were once again not working and I have had to put in three separate maintenance requests about my washer and dryer in the last three months, all left unanswered until today. Dryer stops working and it has to be physically moved, unplugged and "reset" every 2-3 loads, the washer sometimes will not start or complete a cycle, and if it does it is so loud that it can be heard from down the hallway. Washer also will leave grease stains or tear some clothing. Only today was the washer replaced - with a used one of the same brand that I have had issues with in the past. It seems like maintenance's MO is to put a bandaid on problems instead of throughly and completely fixing them.
Recently, it has been revealed that the management company allowed a corporation to rent units for use as AirBnBs. This presents a huge security risk for the building's residents and many are unhappy about this development. The leasing office essentially passed the buck off to the company who leased the units - "Park Pacific is not the one listing the units on AirBnB," completely ignoring the fact that they had to give this company permission. All in the effort to make an extra dollar - at the sacrifice of its well-established residents.
That is a pretty typical response from the leasing office, always passing blame on to another, refusing to be accountable for their own actions, and dismissing concerns.
As soon as I graduate from law school, I will be moving out of this building and I simply cannot wait.

Location, Location, Location
You can't beat living across the street from the law school! Also close to school-related social hours, restaurants, and clinic/clerkship locations around the city. The management is great! Superfast with maintenance requests and good at setting up social events with other community members. The in-room washer/dryer is a huge plus. Super secure. You need to swipe an access card TWICE to get into the building and to use the elevator. Each resident can only swipe onto their floor and the floors with parking access or other community amenities.

Park Pacific great for law students
I love living here primarily because of its proximity to the law school. It’s also walking distance from Busch Stadium, Enterprise Center, and Union Station. During non pandemic times there is also a sports bar and Mexican restaurant on the first floor. I also appreciate the garage parking and level of security. The door man also helps ensure no packages get stolen. There’s also a small but nice gym and a rooftop area will grills that residents can use. Overall I would recommend this building to anyone, but especially law students looking for convenience and other amenities.

Downtown West Reviews
The streets in Downtown generally are somewhat clean. There are also many restaurants & coffee shops in downtown, and it is very walkable/bike-able during the daytime hours.
Safety: St. Louis' reputation for being unsafe precedes it, and is a bit exaggerated. But not entirely off-base, from my personal experience. From about sunrise to sunset, speaking as a man, I am comfortable walking outside. Foot traffic is generally very light and most streets have sufficient sidewalk space. Not to fearmonger, but I have personally erred on the side of caution when it comes to going out at night. I do go out to Bar Reviews and friends' house parties once a month or so. I tend to get home anywhere from midnight to 2am. I have never seen any violence, or concerning behavior, with my own eyes. Anecdotally, I have heard from another friend in Downtown that they have seen people cruising around in a car with guns on one occasion, very early in the morning/late at night. Gunshots are not rare, but also not frequent. My personal estimate is that I hear what could plausibly be gunshots once every two weeks or so. They occur most often in the midnight to 4am block of time. Car-break-ins were the second-most raised point about safety in Downtown. I have not been the victim of a break-in myself. However, I have seen cars parked in the same spot on the street all day go from having an intact window in the morning to a busted window by the end of the school day. I strongly recommend securing garage parking if you have a car, either in your own apartment complex or a nearby external garage. Downtown St. Louis has a homelessness problem, unfortunately similar to most other major cities in the US (Austin, TX and Los Angeles, CA come to mind). The homeless & city have a tragic cycle of homeless people occupying the parks near the law school & city hall, then being cleared out by city officials when a major event is being held at or near the parks, and drifting back in, days or weeks after the event. I have seen homeless people sleeping along the St. Charles St. side of the building, and further up the street. I have never been personally accosted by anyone, but it can contribute to feelings of overall decreased safety.
