Good value for what you get
When I first moved, the apartment was not ready for the move and yet, they rented anyways. It took them over a week to get the issues resolved. The garbage is far from the apartments too, so you have to walk or drive with your trash. Management is nice but somewhat unresponsive. Overall, though, it is good value for what you get.

Good Management and Value
Management is friendly. It's a great price for living alone.

Pretty nice, occasional bugs (it’s the forest!)
I like The Forest a lot because the apartment is a great size and it is VERY close to school (a 4 minute drive from the parking garage). It’s a 10 minute drive from downtown Durham, and the bus does come directly to the apartments. It’s in the Duke Forest, so there are occasional bugs which is to be expected. The management is very nice and takes care of issues immediately.

Very convenient to campus but just ok
The Forest is one of the more affordable places to live alone. It’s more than enough space for one person and has a ton of storage space. However, the building is old and drafty, with water stains, and the setup has the bathroom vanity attached to the bedroom which I find to be so weird and disconcerting. The management is ok, but you sometimes have to ask multiple times/follow up for maintenance (my longest delay was a few days). It’s literally in the middle of the Duke Forest; so it’s dark at night but safety-wise I’ve felt ok. Another drawback is that there’s no in-unit laundry. If you can, get an apartment across from the leasing office, where the mail and laundry are located. A plus to The Forest is that it’s very close to campus- less than 10 min to the Science Drive Garage. Overall, I would only recommend this if you’re on a tight budget to live alone and want to be close to campus (you can also take the bus from here), but I plan to move out at the end of my lease.
