Nothing Except Location

The reason you should stay at Bon Wit Plaza is strictly for the location in Foggy Bottom. In terms of transportation, you're less than a block from the Metro, 42/43 bus route, and the Georgetown/Union Station circulator. Also, it takes me less than 5 minutes to get to my classes at GW.

However, if you care about (1) having any amenities; (2) cleanliness; (3) noise; (4) age of the apartment building; or (5) value for your high rent; you should probably live somewhere else. I decided to live at Bon Wit because I didn't want to commute to school. However, after living here for two years, I can confidently recommend to live a bit further away so you can have a newer building, amenities, increased safety, no roommates, or safety concerns. I would not recommend living here. The cons simply outweigh the pros 10-1.

Great location for medical students

The properties at Bon Wit Plaza are all independently owned and rented out, but I live in 508 and really like it! It is small, but enough space for two people. I have never had an issue there.

Not bad, but Good, but not Great

The downsides:
This complex is old. The hallways are ancient. Sometimes a bit musty. If you like to cook, DO NOT LIVE HERE. Most apartments have extremely minimal kitchens with ovens older than Carter. Also, this Bon Wit has zero amenities.

The upsides:
LOCATION LOCATION. Looking at a map you’ll realize this complex is only blocks from the law school. Usually it only takes me 5-7 minutes to walk to the school, on totally flat ground, on the same street. ALSO, if you look at a map, you see that the foggy bottom metro is literally steps away. ALSO, the 42/43 bus which runs straight to DuPont Circle and Adams Morning or literally across the street.

The building got new management and they have been very nice to me. They have 24/7 security and package service, which has been incredibly helpful.

Also, the laundry machines are in the same level and you can pay remotely through an app, which is really convenient. If you need a parking space, there are always 2-3 available for 150-200 a month.

Some things to note:
This building is NOT accessibility friendly. There is no handicap doors. If you are looking for total accessibility, I would sincerely look somewhere else.

This is one of the best places to live if you want space close to Ross Hall/GWU. Located directly behind Ross Hall, you can be in class in 5 minutes. It's only amenity is a bearbones roof deck. Parking is (usually) rented separately from you apartment and runs a couple hundred a month.

Great for the price

I got lucky with my rent, $1800 after internet. The building is very clean and fairly well maintained although the elevetor sometimes stops working and there are cockroaches on the root and apparently some mice in the basement. There's a nice little lobby and 24-hour attendant. It's around 8 minutes walk to Lerner Hall which really can't be beat. I think other apartments in the building run a little more expensive, but at its price point this was a great find. We're also a block away from Foggy Bottom metro which is awesome.

Bon Wit Review

Individual aparment/condo in a building that is fairly small. Mix of undergrad students, graduate students, med students, families and older tenants. Generally the space is large for the price, and a 7 minute walk to the law school. Close to grocery stores too. Landlord is reponsive, but each individual apartment is owned by different people.

Bon Wit

Overall it's a really nice building. There are mostly older individuals who own the condos, but a mix of grad students (med, law) and some undergrad (pretty much only seniors). I haven't had any real noise issues, though to be fair the walls are really thin. The front desk staff is awesome, and there 24/7. It doesn't really offer anything exceptional, but it's a 7 minute walk to school and a 2 min walk to the metro so I can't beat that. There are a bunch of homeless people who hang around because there is a soup kitchen one block down, but nothing unsafe.

Great location

Great location, close to GW and the metro. Downfalls are there's no pool or gym or balconies. Manager is nice.

Foggy Bottom Reviews

Lots of pretty row homes, walking distance to many restaurants, grocery stores, and my school. Lots of trees and a dog park near-by. Overall, very pretty and scenic to walk through, and also close to other neighborhoods and essential stores.
I like living in Foggy, it's easy to get to school but also is close to Georgetown, which is fun for food and shopping. The northern part of Foggy (near GW) is about 10 minute walk to Dupont too, which is great.
Short walk to Georgetown, West End, and Dupont Circle. Many restaurants nearby and close to metro so you can get to anywhere in the city conveniently.
Nice to be so close to school. Short walk from the mall and other tourist destinations. Bar/restaurant/night life scene leaves a lot to be desired.
It is really close to campus so a lot of GW folks live here! You can reach a lot of places on public transit.
Edge of Foggy Bottom bordering Georgetown - very safe and peaceful!
I personally enjoy the quietness of the neighborhood and its location within a close walking distance of campus, Georgetown, the water, and convenience/grocery stores. The neighborhood is also very safe, I am a woman in my early 20's and I have never felt unsafe walking home late at night near my apartment.
Foggy Bottom is a great place to live given the proximity to the law school. It's also within walking distance of Georgetown and Dupont Circle which are fun places to go out with friends and classmates. It's also has lots of bike racks for the Capital Bikeshare nearby, and the Foggy Bottom metro stop is a few blocks up the street.
