Great Location

Living on a park and steps away from a main subway line makes this a great apartment. Not to mention it's rent controlled and in an ever-changing neighborhood full of families of all races and income levels. This is a perfect neighborhood for everyone, and the cuisine is good too!

Flatbush - Ditmas Park Reviews

The area has many great produce stores nearby and lots of ethnic/latin markets at every corner. However, grocery stores with typical brand-name items are a little further away. I take the subway to Prospect Park to do my usual bulk grocery shopping, then buy my produce near my apartment. The apartment is only one block away from the Church Ave B/Q stop, which is very convenient for commuting to Manhattan. If those trains are down, you can still take the 2/5 if you walk 10-15 minutes away. The area is definitely up and coming (as can be seen by the multiple apartment complexes being built in the area), so I'm excited to see what else comes to the area.
Very nice, picturesque area. Unfortunately, gentrifiers are moving and ruining the charm and culture of the neighborhood. Reliable neighborhood businesses are being closed down in favor of trendy cafes and restaurants that never seem to last for more than a year.

It's a nice, safe place to walk, especially at night, where the most you'll see outside are a few stray cats.

My advice: if you're moving here, move here to enjoy the neighborhood as it is, and not for what you think you can make it into.
40 minutes to university, great apartment, nice neighborhood to have a family.
Kensington is an up-and-coming neighborhood in Brooklyn that has seen an influx of young families, restaurants and bars, and other services in the past few years. The North edge is very close to Prospect Park and the F and G lines are close by. Though the commute to Stern can be long (45 min on average), it's good for people who want to get away from the buzz of Manhattan or downtown Brooklyn. There's a bit of a suburb feel, but with everything you need nearby. The main street (Church Ave) has a wide array of West Indian, Polish, Bangladeshi, and Hispanic restaurants and businesses — and more and different ones are opening up every month. Definitely a neighborhood for those who don't mind trading some conveniences of the big city for very affordable rents and lots of space.
Commute to Stern is about an hour, which is not fun for 9AM classes. However, it is quiet, family friendly, and filled with some beautiful multi-family homes. Cortelyou Road has some cute little restaurants. Pretty cheap rents. Big grocery stores, outlet shopping, and a big 24 Hour Fitness.
