Good management, building is just alright

Overall good experience, no pests, friendly neighbors. Management is pretty good, there is a doorman and they will hold packages, my fridge was broken and management replaced it fairly quickly. Laundry in building, parking and a small rec room are available but cost extra. #1 problem is the elevators. The building is 30+ stories and one or two of the elevators is constantly being repaired, has been like that the entire time I've been here and long time residents say it's always like that.

Good apartment

A little pricey, but that's the nature of the neighborhood. Very safe, gym is just $10/month, 7min walk from the C/E, close to a lot of food options.

Love Hudson View

Since we flex the apartment for 3 people, the rent is a steal for the area. The building management and security are great. Also, it is a short walk to school! We have an amazing terrace, view and spacious bedrooms.

Very Good for What it Offers

The new apartments are quite nice, fully renovated before move in, with marble counters and all new appliances. After a few months, there is some wear and tear and it is obvious where corners were cut. But, the office is fairly prompt at sending maintenance, and if fixable, problem with be fixed immediately. Building is slow at upgrades, but they get to it eventually. Door staff can be helpful, but most appear just for show. Security seems inconsistent - sometimes guests sign in and get a call, sometimes they just walk past the staff. Most residents keep to themselves, with a mix of young families, twenty-something roommates, and very old shut-ins.

About Hell's Kitchen

Not just a home for learning and practicing actors, Hell's Kitchen is also loved by young professionals, performing artists, and students. A big perk of this neighborhood is the convenience - walking distance to subway and train stops, nearby grocery stores, and close to Fordham and NYU. There are m...

Hell's Kitchen Reviews

Hell's Kitchen is full of restaurants. It's mostly very safe, but I typically avoid the edges (near Port Authority). It's close to Times Square, but it's very easy to avoid. Hell's Kitchen is pretty central so it's easy to get all over the city, and there are a lot of transit options (especially on 8th avenue).
Hell’s Kitchen has some rough edges, but the restaurant scene is terrific and decent deals on apartments. Being so close to 9th ave rocks, and 10th ave is definitely up-and-coming. there aren’t a lot of sternies nearby (most of them are in the village) but a handful live nearby. The reasons to like HK are the neighborhood vibe, the restaurant scene, and the proximity to Central Park. Downside is mostly distance from campus, depending on how close you live to the subway.
Hell's Kitchen has lots of grocery stores, bars, and restaurants, although it lacks some of the charm of other neighborhoods. It's possible to find new apartments here that are a good value. It's a relatively lively neighborhood. My only complaint is the lack of gyms and subway stations in the neighborhood.
PROS
* Easily accessible from a majority of transit hubs.
* Tremendous investment on the part of private and public entities, so there's a lot of development and renewarl.
* Proximity to Javits Center, Penn Station, and Time Square make it heavily policed and quite safe.

CONS
* NOISE--from the Lincoln Tunnel, the Javits, the River, the tourists, but above all else the construction
* Proximity to Javits Center, Penn Station, and Time Square can suck the character out of the location. Don't move here if you're looking to easily find a neighborhood with it's own personality (your local coffee place is going to be Starbucks and your local Italian place is going to be a hike if you want anything other than Sbarro/Olive Garden).
Midtown West has a vibrant bar and restaurant scene, and most of it is just far enough away from Times Square (past 8th Ave, anyway) to not attract tourists. Hell's Kitchen, in particular, has an amazing selection of places to eat with mostly smaller restaurants and bars. For those who want mega parties, Pacha and Hudson Terrace are by the river.

Transportation, particularly up and down the West Side and to FiDi is incredibly easy, and if you live near 42nd St, almost every area is a snap to get to.
There are some good restaurants and bars, but overall it's not terribly exciting. Transit on A/C/E is pretty good, but getting to east side is difficult if you need to. Getting to west village is a breeze though.
We like the neighborhood, it is a little closer to midtown west than Hell's kitchen though. Lots of bars and good places to eat on ninth ave and only a fifteen minute walk to campus.
Pro: Great places to eat, close to multiple transit lines, and Broadway shows.

Con: Can be loud and tourist heavy during certain hours.
