Don't Rent Here

When we first moved in, the carpet smelled horrible (like dog urine), the shower had (and still has) a crack in it, whoever painted the place must have been blind because there were paint drips all over the walls, on the kitchen floor, and on the carpet. Management sent someone out about our carpet, and it was scheduled to have been torn out, but wasn't, so we had the pleasure of having to repack our stuff so the carpet people could come and re-carpet the apartment. We have cracks in our ceiling (thankfully no leaks, yet). The appliances appear to be older than I am (yellow with age). We had faulty outlets in our living room, so either the plugs wouldn't work at all or, if they decided to work, would cause a short and we would have to reset our breaker box. Our air conditioner has stopped working 3 times in the 16 months we've lived here, always during the hottest time of the summer. It is clearly an old unit and needs to be replaced, but instead Management likes to make us sit in a 90 degree apartment for 7 days while they track down repair people and parts. Our car was also broken into in our parking lot with items stolen out of it. Our complex was within College Towne Apartments, which had two pools, a gym, tanning beds, etc. (really nice facilities). That was the whole reason we chose it. Then, in the Spring of 2020, we were told College Towne sold Oakbrook to Knob Hill and we would no longer be allowed to use the College Towne facilities, even though we are still part of the large College Towne complex. We would not be grandfathered into those facilities, even though College Towne made us re-up our lease in October of 2019 for the following year (two months after our move-in date). Both of these complexes (College Towne and Knob Hill) are prime examples of the Slum-Lord college landlords. They won't invest in their units because they know college students need a place to live and they offer cheaper prices. I have intentionally not selected anything in next section about what I like about the apartment because this apartment is pure garbage, and I can't wait to get out of Lansing because of it.

I hate Lansing

DTN is a slum lord, which I guess is to be expected in a college town. Why offer nice units for undergrads to destroy? However, the online walk-through was clearly the "fake" unit that nobody ever lives in so it looks beautiful. When we moved in, our A/C was broken for the first 7 days. The inside of our apartment was over 90 degrees, I thought my cats were going to die. We called multiple times over the weekend and left voicemails on the emergency line. Nobody responded to us. We were missing a vent in the bathroom, and we only found out because my cat climbed into the HVAC system. There was paint splattered all over the walls and carpet like a bunch of blind children were hired to paint. The trim was peeling off the walls. The carpet smelled like dog urine and was scheduled to be tore out, they just failed to do so. We were then required to repack up our belongings in order for the carpet to be changed almost 3 weeks after we moved in.
