6252 Southwood and Barrons Realty
This is an old building in the cute neighborhood of Demun. 15 minute bike, 15 minute bus, 30 minute walking to law school. Always felt safe walking around neighborhood but did not walk all the way to school and back when dark (would opt for bus).
Cheap rent, basic appliances, not renovated. Old hardwood floors and “charm.”
Would recommend this as well as other Barrons properties. They’re flexible and no hassle landlords. Fix things promptly but don’t bug you. Fair pricing I think.

Solid studio apt near campus
I’ve been very happy about the housing prices in St. Louis having moved here from NYC and grown up in CA. I think I got a better deal on the apartment than others in my building/area (Clayton/Demun) because I moved in in June, a time when more people are moving out as school ends than in, and pay very low rates for electricity and gas (although I don’t cook much, and internet is still $50/month). This is a great location about a mile from the law school, and the walk through Clayton to the school is lovely, and usually takes around 15-20 minutes. I usually bike to campus up the bike path that borders forest park, which is a peaceful and quick commute taking around 10-15 minutes, although it does involve an uphill section to get from the southeast corner of campus to the law school. The apartment is spacious for one person with little furniture, and has two (2!) closets, one walk-in that separates the bathroom from the main studio and one attached. One flaw in the apartment is that the kitchen is very small, and is not well-suited for someone who plans to do a lot of cooking, or even have more than 2 appliances (I have a blender and a toaster, and I keep them on top of the fridge due to a lack of space on the counter for anything besides a drying rack and a small prep area). The bathroom has a bath in addition to the shower, which is nice for people who enjoy taking baths to de-stress. There is a parking lot, but I don’t use it and can’t offer feedback on that. Most people with bikes lock their bikes to the rail on the stairs to the basement in the back of the house, but there is no dedicated bike rack. The basement has two washers and two dryers, but the dryers do not function well and it normally takes two cycles to get clothes completely dry. The radiator works great as a heat source in the wintertime, but I don’t believe the renter can turn it on and off. It stays on permanently (probably to keep pipes from freezing?). There are very large windows that face east, so the sun will wake you up if you are not wearing a sleeping mask. The windows have a nice view of Southwood Ave, which has many trees, and offers an excellent view in the snow or rain. The front door is not locked, but to my knowledge there have been no incidents of package theft, and in fact I’ve seen packages stay untouched for weeks until the owner returns from vacation.
