Great Location, Not great Maintenance

This place has a great view of the river and a short walk away from the river walk. They are great for short term housing leases but I didn't enjoy staying there for a long period of time. It wasn't well maintained. Maintenance is short staffed so it always took a while for things to get fixed but they are always friendly and willing to help. There are no elevators in my building and a lot of the buildings. There are different types of styles of apartments to choose from and some were just built better than others. You just have to be mindful of which building you pick. They have a 2 pools one is like a splash 2 ft pool and the other was closed most of the time I was there. Although, it looked nice when it was up and running. The gym is small but no one really uses it so it was almost practically a private gym. There are a lot of dogs at the complex and is marketed as a pet friendly place. They have a lot of dog parks but most of them are just dirt lots. The best thing is the riverwalk and views.

Decent place to live

Living here has been good, but management is slow whenever you have problems. A lot of college kids live here so it can get loud occasionally however it’s mostly quiet.

Canalside after 3 years

I live in a second floor apartment, with apartments that are on both sides and above me. The major issue I have had the whole 3 years I’ve lived in this apartment is the loudness of my neighbors. That said, I believe a part of it may be how thin the walls are and how much open space exists between apartments (creating an echo effect of sorts). But I think the location is great for clinical years, and I would say it is decent for non-clinical years. In terms of location in the city, it is close to a lot of restaurants, breweries, and outdoor activities. It’s also aesthetically pleasing both in and out of the apartments. Only other issue is that dog poop may be around despite signs to clean up after dogs, etc.

creekside

Most likely on par with Vista Towers for best places to live 3rd and 4th year due to proximity to hospital and cheaper than Sola Station. For 1st and 2nd year, I felt that Creekside was best apartment for location to VA and approx same price I am paying now.

CanalSide Lofts

I enjoyed living at CanalSide, for your third and fourth year of Med School, it’s very close to the hospital. There are pools, a gym, and you are right next to the RiverWalk. The rent might seem steep, but it is a new development. I never had plumbing or electric problems, didn’t have to worry about crime or bed bugs. Staff are easy and friendly to communicate with.

Lots of resident physicians live in Sola Station, closer to the canal, within the same development complex. Sola station has higher rent for additional luxuries.

Love it!

I have LOVED living at Canalside! It is super close to the hospital (about 6 minutes when there's no traffic). It is a farther drive from the VA campus, but as a clinical student you don't have to go there as much. I have a very open floor plan which is great for hosting. There's a fenced in dog park and the complex is located right on the RiverFront Park which is a 6 mile long trail with a bunch of green space. There are also two pools. The management has been really helpful. We had a flooring issue and it was replaced relatively quickly. They're very responsive.
