Can't put on lipstick on dumpster
MAA Dexter Lake looks decent at first, but once you actually live here, you realize it’s all just surface-level upgrades trying to cover up an aging, poorly maintained complex. They advertise “luxury,” but that just means they’ve thrown in some new countertops and cabinets while ignoring the real issues. The walls are thin, the plumbing is unreliable, and maintenance is slow to respond unless you’re a new tenant they’re still trying to impress.
The cleanliness of the property is a major issue. Trash constantly piles up around the dumpsters, and no one seems to care about keeping the area clean. Dog waste is everywhere—on the sidewalks, in the grass, and even in stairwells—because there’s zero enforcement for pet owners to clean up after their animals. No matter how clean you keep your apartment, you’ll probably end up dealing with bugs. Roaches, ants, and other pests are common complaints, and maintenance does little to fix the issue.
Security is another big problem. The gates that are supposed to make this a "gated community" are broken more often than not, so anyone can just walk in. There’s little oversight from management, and if an actual issue arises, don’t expect them to do much about it. A few years ago, a dead body was found in the lake, and no one even noticed for days. That tells you everything you need to know about how well they actually monitor and maintain this place.
If you’re wondering why there are so many five-star reviews, it’s because the leasing office pressures new tenants to leave them immediately after signing a lease. At that point, you haven’t lived here long enough to experience the problems. The real reviews are the one-star ones from people who actually stuck around and dealt with everything management ignores. If this place were really that great, people wouldn’t be leaving after just one lease.
For what they charge, you can find a much better place to live. The rent is way too high for a property that is this poorly managed. If you’re considering moving here, ask someone who has lived here for more than a few months, and they’ll tell you the same thing—this place is all about appearances, but the reality is frustrating, overpriced, and not worth it.

Love living here!
We love this apartment complex! There's a two mile trail that goes around a private lake along with tennis courts, a gym, a volleyball court, and an infinity pool! It's about a 20-25 minute drive to campus but totally worth it!

Great except for one instance
Good complex, lots of space to walk/run. Has a pool, gym, and tennis court. Management seems fairly responsive to concerns, maintenance is usually quick. My car was stolen from the complex but I believe that this would have happened anywhere as the thieves targeted the complex and obviously planned their actions, stealing multiple cars in one night. Complex is gated with adequate lighting and security.

Relaxing Apartment Complex
This place has a lake with a wonderful walking trail around it. The neighbors are friendly and it’s a gated community. Maintenance is quick to respond and we have smart home capabilities. There’s an infinity pool, gym, tennis courts, volleyball court, and the property is well kept. You’re close to restaurants, shopping, a walk away from Kroger, and 5 minutes from the interstate.

4/5 stars
Good place to live. Close to everything we needed. 30 minute commute to school, though. Would recommend.
