Citiscape at Essen

I've lived at Citiscape at Essen since my 1L year (I'm now in the middle of my 3L year). The apartment is a gated community with a pool, small gym, dog park, and walking paths throughout the apartment complex. Our apartment is not top-of-the-line and is nothing fancy, but it is what you would expect for the price. The area seems to be safe, is close to the interstate, and is about a 15-minute drive to the Law Center.

Good distance from LSU, not too close, so we don't have to deal with football traffic and crime. Takes about 15 to 20 minutes to drive to campus, would not recommend if you don't have a car. Nice apartments for decent price if you have roommates. Maintenance does a great job showing up within the next day most of the time. They're pet friendly, have a dog park, a pool, and a gym. Plenty of parking for residents, visitor parking fills up kinda fast though. Nice, quiet area, feels pretty safe, and grocery store and several fast food places are within walking distance.

The apartment community is gated and the people who reside there are friendly and nice. The community has a pool and a small gym area. The drive to LSU is only about 15 minutes.

As a couple, we really love living here. We have a lot of space and storage for a great deal. It may not be a great deal if you're trying to live here by yourself or with roommates, as there is a huge disparity in space between the master and extra bedroom.

In regards to location, we're close to all of the hospitals so we've never lost power during any of the hurricanes or the winter ice storm. We're also close to the Mall and a lot of restaurants. I have about a 10-20 minute commute to campus depending on traffic.

The apartment complex doesn't have many students and is comprised of mostly families, so I don't feel like I am living in a college town. In addition, we're just far enough away from LSU that we are not impacted by game days.

It can be difficult to cool/heat our apartment because of poor insulation, but the energy bill isn't too high.

Maintenance isn't great, but I feel like management cares and is responsive.

We have a huge balcony which is nice to sit on during the evenings! It was one of the reasons we choose this complex because not many apartments had such large balconies!

The apartment is not too far from campus but also far enough away that you can get a break from “school.” The community is gated and staff very friendly.
