Best deal in Baton Rouge

My condo is the best deal in Baton Rouge! I lived here all three years of law school and am considering extending my lease if I take a local job. The landlords are great, the rent is fantastic, and the location is within 15 minutes of the law center even in rough traffic. It is a little older, but no major problems, and the complex is filled with several other law students!

Building 5109

The unit was well kept and my landlord is responsive. Landlord only rents to professionals and graduate students so the building is relatively quiet. There are other units/buildings which are owned by various property management companies.

Good for Graduate Students

Cons:
Trash can overflow at times, the grounds are not always kept up (dog owners are in abundance), the sanitation of the pools are questionable, the walls are thin, staff can be non-responsive at times, and no one considered Brooke Hollow when putting in the new median.

Pros:
Quiet when it counts, people don’t bother you but are friendly, great distance from the school and Perkins, officers will let you pass game day blockades because of where you live, staff tries to get maintenance done on time, and we aren’t significantly affected during storms, floods, or other outages

Overall great place to live!

The walls are thin (I can hear the unit above me walk around and flush the toilet). The apartment is spacious with 740 sq ft and large porches with a storage closet off the front porch. The location is great. It is within walking distance to several restaurants/bars and within 2-3 miles of LSU/Tiger Stadium, grocery stores, and the levee bike/walking trail. Management and maintenance are helpful and responsive. Communication and rent payment is done through an easy-to-use online portal. There is no onsite office, it is nearby at the Villas on Brightside. Overall, I have enjoyed living here over the past year and a half.

Appropriate for Temporary Student Living

I like the proximity to campus, restaurants, grocery stores, and other amenities. The area is mostly quiet and the resident population is mostly made up of post-grad students and working professionals. I like the care that the owners take in their units - the interiors are mostly modern despite the complex pool leaving something to be desired on a hygienic level.

If one prefers quiet throughout the day and week, this place would not be ideal as the weekends (less often) and game days (most often) can bring out the noise from time to time. The walls and windows are thin and not noise-proof. The units are small - the closet and rooms in general leave much to be desired.
Another game day note - the one entrance to the complex is often blocked off by police or traffic. This is one place where you have to plan your day around game day traffic or you'll make yourself mad.

There are no trash receptacles outside other than the dumpsters; there is no way to recycle; and dog owners are not held accountable for the messes of their dogs.

Management takes much longer than necessary to respond to service requests, but they are very accommodating and understanding of life issues and challenges.
