DO NOT RENT HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE SCAMMED OUT OF YOUR DEPOSIT

My bf and I lived at Parkside for one year. Some highlights: management scamming us out of half of our deposit, the
fire alarms constantly going off for no reason (yes in the middle of the night and day, constantly), the parking garage gate only sometimes working, the party pedal bus going through the street by Summer Moon blasting music. When we moved out I spent the entire day cleaning our place top to bottom, vacuuming, wiping everything down, following move out instructions to a tee, etc. The place was left spotless. To my surprise about a month later when the assistant manager emailed us our invoice for overpaid rent and deposit to be given back to us, $150 was charged to us. $100 for a cleaning fee and $50 for missing fridge bins. I immediately emailed her back that same day asking why as we left our place spotless and we did not take any fridge bins. She replied back the next day saying she will look into this and get back to me. Weeks go by and no response so I call the office, thus ensues the game of ducking my calls and not responding. Finally, weeks later, I emphasize my frustrations and finally get her on the phone. She said she walked through our apartment when we moved out and "it was left in great condition", "cleaned", and "nothing of ours was left behind". I ask why we were charged. She says "it’s a part of their business model as they need a way to recoup their losses when people move out and they have to clean the place". I stop her and ask her to reference my lease where it says we are responsible for that. She reads our lease and it says the only way they are allowed to charge us is if we leave the place excessively dirty, to which she again says was not the case. The conversation then moves to the fridge bins (which we did not take and makes zero sense for us to take). She agrees with me that it doesn’t make sense that we would take them and also notes how she was struggling to find evidence that we took them. She says at that time she's still unable to refund us the money and to give her one week to gather evidence and consult with her manager. A week then goes by. Do you think I heard from her? No. Weeks later, I did get an email. The email provided zero of the evidence that I requested to support them charging us and only consisted of a denial to refund the money. That same day I email back and ask for availability for a call that week to which she doesn't respond to. I follow up again, still nothing. I finally get an email back with her "evidence" she sends over receipts of a standard make ready cleaning and a carpet cleaning. These things are standard when you move out. She also is now claiming that our pets soiled the carpet beyond use, leading to it having to be replaced and thus the $100 charge. This is again, completely false in every sense of the word and we again requested images of the carpet, fridge, receipts for the fridge bins as well as receipts for the carpet replacement. This sort of documentation is standard when taking money from peoples deposits. She tried to frame the email as if she was doing us a favor by not charging us more as well which was absolutely ridiculous. For months I send her bi weekly follow up emails requesting this evidence to which she doesn’t respond. After multiple phone calls and attempts to get her on the phone, I am told today by a leasing agent that quote "there is nothing further to speak about and is refusing your call, if you want to escalate further, you can fill out the general Contact Us form on our management companies website." Extremely disappointing and unprofessional to not even take my call.
Overall their shady business practices charging people wrongfully for cleaning, lack of communication, lack of evidence to support them taking $150 from us, and our experience while living there, I would never recommend living at Parkside.

Parkside So7 Apartments

I love living at Parkside Apartments. It’s close to the law building and lots of food spots downtown.
