Cozy and Great Location but Run Down
I have lived in this apartment (specifically apt 3 because they're all very different) for 2 1/2 years at this point and have been very comfortable.
Pros:
- GREAT location; on the edge of Shadyside and East Liberty, access to both and on a quieter street; close to restaurants, grocery stores, bars
- Free parking on our street (don't need a parking permit)
- Get to live by myself affordably
- Plenty of space for one person
- Get to know the people in the apartment building (if you want)
- Small cozy little backyard
- A lot of cozy quirks about an older apartment
- Lived above my best friend
Cons:
- Landlord is cheap, uses one older handyman for everything who will get to things when he gets to things (particularly, the squirrels like my heating/cooling unit and it breaks down a lot and is not fixed quickly, even in freezing winter or blistering summer)
- Kitchen is VERY small (for any decent amount of counter space, need to be willing to block fire exit and turn flap up counter into permanent counter)
- Small, old stove/oven (uneven stove, oven doesn't fit a pizza)
- Decent amount of cabinet space is not reachable for short people in my apartment specifically
- No overhead lighting in bedroom
- Need quarters for the laundry machine
