Good solution for married couple with lots of stuff
I rent from an owner in a condominium complex on South Main Street, about a mile off campus. My wife and I decided to move here after looking at some of the options on Brown Street / Hill Street as well as the higher end student housing developments in town, and decided we would get more value for our money by moving a little bit off campus. We have a one-car garage as well as a parking space, which means lots of storage. There are two bus lines that stop near the apartment which arrive every 25 minutes or so, making my commute to Ross about 20 minutes each day. I won't lie, this commute isn't the best one I've heard of at Ross (most students walk about 10 minutes to school) but is very similar to Woodbury Gardens.
I am also across the street from a shopping center which contains a large supermarket (Busch's), an OrangeTheory gym, a dry cleaner and several food options.
Another thing to be aware of is that the apartment is next to the golf team's practice driving range, which is mowed each day during the season early in the morning and has people entering/exiting at weird hours. If you are a light sleeper/sensitive to noise, this may be annoying, but the plus side is you do not live close to the train that comes through town some nights and is required to blow its horn (not true of Hill/Brown street). My apartment also faces north, which means limited sunlight.
I have overall been happy with our living arrangement. Best for a couple that isn't prioritizing being close to bars/restaurants and might have a lot of stuff, but downtown Ann Arbor is easy to get to if you want to visit.

Main Street Commons
I rent from a condo owner in the Main Street Commons development across from Busch's supermarket. The condo is nice with wall to wall carpet. It is about 1 mile away from the Ross School of business, with bus service coming by on weekdays about every 30 minutes.
