Old 4th Ward Duplex

Our apartment is located in O4W, about a 20 min drive from Emory campus in the mornings and a 10-15 min drive from Grady and Emory Midtown. We actually chose this house based on the great location and proximity to the Beltline, great restaurants and bars, and all the hospitals we will be working at this year.

While it is a great area to live, there are some downfalls to living here. While it is not the priciest area in Atlanta, it isn't as cheap as the area surrounding Emory. Your dollar definitely doesn't go as far down there as it does near school. That being said, we fully expected that and knew that going in. Our apartment has quite a few flaws. Examples include thin walls, noisy neighbors, ugly external appearance (which we could care less about), and very average appliances. Occasionally we have had maintenance problems or a leaky roof, but our landlord has always been quick to fix the problem. We have never felt unsafe in the area but the surrounding neighborhood is a little on the sketchy side. So if you're particularly worried about safety, maybe look for a nice apartment complex in the area instead.

Overall, we love our apartment and have had a great time living here. If I could do it again I totally would, although I would consider spending a little more money to live in a slightly nicer house/apartment. I don't think there is any other neighborhood I would rather live during my time in medical school.
