Great Price - You Get What You Pay For
Phid is affordable, close to campus, and a fun place to live. I would not suggest living there just because of the price, especially if you expect the same level of accommodations as an apartment complex or private residence with standard rent levels. It is a very old home, and that comes with issues. The plumbing backs up, the heat can be touchy, it’s noisy, the walls and foundations look their age, and the rooms vary in size. It’s managed entirely by the residents, and the owners of the property are often difficult to contact. Bathrooms are shared: one for men and one for women and one extra. It is very much a community, and the house only functions if all residents contribute to its upkeep. It’s terribly fun to live there, and one of the more affordable options in Ann Arbor. Expect a standard of living appropriate for living in a 100 year old house with 24 grad students.
