8th and Berry
I've had nothing but an amazing experience living here! Every member of the management staff is so kind and on top of everything. While it does seem a bit pricey, a lot of other places have crazy additional fees for parking, etc., so at the end of the day isn't terrible. They have a great pool, 24/7 gym, clubhouse for studying (open 24/7 with free coffee), and dog park. I feel very safe in this gated community, and it's conveniently close to pretty much anything you need (including 10-15 minutes from school).

8th and Berry!
My apartment is about 10-12 minutes from Vanderbilt, and honestly about 10-15 minutes from anywhere in Nashville (like the airport, Brentwood, Broadway, Green Hills, etc.). The apartment itself is amazing--super updated and spacious. It also has great amenities like a 24 hr gym and a salt water pool. They are also extremely pet friendly. Berry Hill itself is super up-and-coming as well, with great restaurants and coffee shops. I personally enjoy being outside of midtown, because it is nice to get away from the busy nature of it. The only considerations for my apartment is it is by a traintrack, so you definitely can hear it and I sometimes get stuck behind the train. Also, though I like living a bit outside of midtown, when there is traffic (which is often), you have to be okay with not being able to walk to school.
