Renter beware

I've been renting here for 3 years. Perfect rent history, no complaints. I went in a couple of weeks ago to see if I could upgrade to a bigger apartment. They had one coming up on December 28th that I haven't even seen yet. I have no idea if I like the place and I can't see it until that date. Long story short, I put a "$300 deposit" down for it. After some time thinking, I decided paying all the prorated rates ($3500) was too much just to upgrade. So I explained all of this to them and they said they cannot give me my deposit back now because "they've been holding it for so long". At the end of the day, this is corporate greed and some kind of commission protection for the front office people. I won't get my money. Lesson learned. I won't ever do business w/ Picerne again.
