Great Building in Printers Row

I love my building. It's quiet, well managed, and excellently maintained. The main elevators are nice and work well, and there is a freight elevator in the back for larger items, pets, and moving. It's conveniently located next to the laundry room too!

My apartment is a great value for the neighborhood. I'm also paying about as much as I would have been paying in Regents if I stayed there

The apartment itself is spacious. It has huge windows that open almost all the way. Each unit has its own ac/heat and water heater, so you can control the temperature yourself (which is really nice). Units will differ in appearance because they are individually owned condos.

The gym is small, but well maintained and with a good amount of equipment. It's never very crowded, so it's not hard to workout.

The dry cleaner holds packages for you, which is very nice.

Printers Row is a great place to live, and really convenient to the law school. The 2 bus has a stop at harrison and state and balbo and state, so it's a 3-4 walk from my unit door to bus stop.

Awesome!!

Great area with friendly neighbors. Rent is affordable for the location. Wish parking was included. We have to pay $200 for a spot one block away that isn't covered. No one is above us, which is nice. Dog friendly is a huge plus! Steps away from the red line

Convenient Printers Row Condos

Units are large and neighbors are quiet. Not ideal for college students; this is a quiet building where most people own their units and are respectful of neighbors. Parking is located below the building for an additional fee. Windows are large and produce lots of sunlight if your unit is on the south side. Each unit has its own storage unit on the same floor.

Good price, mediocre management, wonderful location

I rent and although the price has been steadily rising (same apartment over the last 5 years from 1700 to now 2000) it is still a bargain for this area. It's surrounded by walking distance restaurants, only problem is less-than-attentive management.

Quiet and comfortable; no outdoor space

Condo association is good and friendly. Neighbors are quiet and friendly. None of the condos have any outdoor space but there are two parks nearby where residents grill out and a dog park. No in-unit washer/dryers but a large laundry facility on first floor. Parking is valet only and very expensive. I would recommend renting a monthly space in one of the surrounding lots, rather than the one below the building. Overall, it is an excellent location, not too busy most of the time and within walking distance to Target, Trader Joes, Icon Theatre, the Loop, Metra, etc. You cannot beat the location.

Living in Printer's Row

Great old building with TONS of room. Windows are big and bulky and kind of hard to open, but are large and filled with light! Everyone on the floor is very nice and most of them own. Allowing pets is great, big and small. Rent is reasonable for the area, Carpet needs changed ASAP

Great location, unit quality depends on the landlord

Since this is a condo building, the individual unit quality and value will depend on the unit owner. The location is great - near Grant Park, gyms, stores and some bars. A lot is happening in the South Loop and the location will only improve, but rents will surely rise with that. The building management is alright, but there are fees for everything (including moving out, which is ridiculous). There is no doorman, but sometimes third party security hired to wander the building at night.

South Loop Reviews

As a single woman it was very important for me to live in an area that was safe given that the medical school schedule will require me to come home at night. Also it gives me great peace of mind to live in a building with doormen 24/7 in case anything were to happen. However, this has come at at a great cost.
South Loop is quieter than the Loop, but you will get more space. Ideal for parents, people with partners that work remotely, or people looking for more space for their money. Outside of Bears games, has far fewer tourists to deal with than the Loop.
Across Michigan Ave from Grant Park. 10-minute walk from the Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, and Soldier Field.
Roosevelt station is very close by and incredibly convenient if you don't mind taking the train or buses, but it is a transit hub, so expect increased numbers and variety of people.
Not far from the rest of the Loop, and you can still easily make your way north for study groups and social events.
The neighborhood is great. It has become so much nicer in the past few years due to all of the new building that have gone up. The Roosevelt stop can be a little sketchy from time to time but I just stay alert when I’m over there. Having a Trader Joe’s, Mariano’s, Target, Wholefoods and Jewel nearby is super nice.
Great neighborhood with beautiful views of the city. Really starting to boom and will continue to grow to be one of the hottest in the city. Does not feel 'neighborhood-y' as some of the western and northern neighborhoods due. Feels like you're still in an urban environment, just outside of the loop.
The area is still up and coming. There are plenty of grocery stores and some shopping that is easily drivable. It is much cleaner than the loop area. The nightlife scene isn't great, but there are a few good restaurants in the area. Also can't beat living across from Grant Park! The Loop area and River North is walkable, or very easy with public transportation.
It's a lot livelier than Hyde Park, and you are far more connected to the rest of Chicago. Printer's Row feels a lot safer too, and I do not feel as concerned when I walk around at night. It has great little bars and restaurants, and is close to a Trader Joe's, Jewel, and Target. There is a Mariano's and Whole Foods a few minutes further away.
Close to everything, but not so close it's congested or a headache to get from place to place. Trader Joe's, Jewel, nearby. Plenty of bars and restaurants walking distance. Walking distance to the el, Soldier Field, the Shedd. Also, easy access to the expressway if you're driving.Street parking is typically plentiful, except during events at Solider Field (parking ban during games).
If went further south than 22ND street it tends to get a little sketchy, but overall a nice area.
Printer's Row is near the Loop and train stations and is therefore easily accessible. It's also near Grant Park and the Lake which is great during the summer. There are some decent restaurants and a few bars, but if you're young you'll probably be heading up to River North and further north for a night out. Overall, the neighborhood feels very friendly but has a great location, and new construction in the South Loop will surely make Printer's Row even better.
