Meridian at Ballston - A Solid Option

The Meridian at Ballston is perfectly located for Metro users (right next to the Ballston station). It's within easy walking distance of CVS and Harris Teeter, and is right next to the mall. It's a 15-20 minute walk to GMU's Arlington campus. Management is responsive and efficient at solving any problems with HVAC, washer/dryer etc.. Rent is a bit cheaper compared to other options in the area without sacrificing value. Comes with fitness center and rooftop pool.

Comfortable place with great amenities but appliances outdated

Overall I really like this apartment complex and that's due to a number of factors:
1. Location: it's right across the street to the metro, bus stations right out front, bike rentals right out front, a farmers market on thursdays in the courtyard in the front, walking distance to a diverse selection of restaurants and grocery stores, plus it's close to all the other popular apartment complexes in Arlington so if you have friends living in those it's super easy to visit. It's also really easy to get into DC from here (15 minutes on the metro, similar for car, you could even run a lap and get there on foot (~5 miles). It's also right across the street from the new Ballston Quarters which is a millenial-based shopping plaza.
2. There's quite a bit of amenities offered-- rooftop pool and clubhouse/ lounge, racquetball court, gym, car wash (not free), coffee in the mornings.
3. The apartment buildings are pretty standard in size compared to nearby apartments and are generally pretty comfortable.
4. Some other extra things-- oftentimes the apartment hosts holiday themed events which is cute. I'd say the majority of residents are young professionals, but we have a couple older folks and couples with kids.

The only drawbacks would be the appliances-- had to submit multiple work orders for our in-house washer and dryer (one time there wasn't any water, and right now our dryer won't stop the cycle so you have to manually pull the door open), also work orders for the heat (water wouldn't heat up/ heater wouldn't work and blew out cold air). So the appliances are pretty outdated. They've been doing a good job on being responsive though. Most of our work orders have been fulfilled within a day or two.

1 bed + sunroom is nice, can flex sunroom into second bedroom if desired

Great location - half a block from the Ballston metro stop, right across the street from the Ballston mall, which has a Macy's, Chipotle, Chick Fil-A, Punch Bowl Social, and more. About half a mile to a public-use park, track, and running trails.

Amenities - gym, racket ball court, giant top floor lounge, outdoor rooftop pool. Wish it was a basketball court instead.

$1920 for a 1 bedroom + sunroom is pretty solid, but super expensive if you're living alone. For a typical apartment setup in Arlington, people probably pay $1,500-$2,200 per person before parking ($100-$150 per car is pretty standard across all of Arlington). 2 bedroom + sunrooms are high in demand. The sunroom can easily be turned into a second bedroom with enough space to fit a full bed, dresser, night stand, and more. It's also reasonably insulated, soundproof, and has enough privacy if you spend ~$100 on nicer curtains. May have to keep the sliding door open during extreme temperatures, but the building as a whole is internally heated so the apartment equilibrium ~65-70 degrees without turning on your own A/C.

Sound leaks a little through the front door, but the rest of the apartment is very soundproof - the only time I hear my neighbors is when they're walking down the hall to their apartments.

Walk-in closet is nice. Construction seems stable. Parking spaces are narrow, just like anywhere else in Falls Church-Arlington.

Apartment allows dogs - always fun to pet in the elevator.

The Meridian at Ballston

As a young working professional, I enjoy living at the Meridian a lot! Right at the heart of Ballston, I have great time enjoying the vibes of the young city which has so many events/activities going on every day. This building is super accessible to major buses, only 1 block away from Ballston Metro, and close to local restaurant, coffee shops (i.e: Starbucks, Cosi) as well as the Ballston Common Mall. The Meridian offers great maintenance services along with 24 hour front desk service. Friendly staff, lovely neighborhood, and safe living environment are among many benefits that this amazing building offers. I will definitely recommend this apartment to anyone

A Nice Bright Haven

I moved here about a year ago and live in a 2 bedroom 2 bath with a sunroom. My roommates and I love the building because it is clean and modern - not like some of the other dumps around time. Nice gym with lots of fit residents running and exercising. Good friends and lots of fun all around.

Beautiful and Convenient

Steps away from the Ballston metro and tons of busses, the Meridian is a great place to live. Rooftop pool, in-building gym, laundromat and restaurant on the first floor, and the apartments are clean and spacious. Management is very responsive and professional. The area has a grocery store and many restaurants in walking distance, as well as the Ballston Mall.

Decent but overpriced

This apartment is definitely overpriced for what we get. It is a 2 bedroom with sunroom and we have a 3rd person in the sunroom. The living room is so tiny and the kitchen only fits 1-2 people at a time and there is not much storage space. The gym downstairs is nice, but parking is over $100 a month additional, and does not include utilities. The location is great next to the metro, but the apartment is too expensive for just two people. No pets allowed. Plently of places to eat nearby

Great area but a little pricey

Its a great area especially for young professionals: bars, restaurants, WMATA are all close by. I wish it was little cheaper, however but apparently that is the D.C. norm. I will probably move further out soon to save money but if you are just getting started it is a nice place.

About Ballston

Living in the suburbs and still finding a vibrant city a few blocks away is what Ballston is all about. Reach the city with great ease, and find some great restaurants such as the Tutto Bene and the Caribbean Breeze, or maybe the Taste of Arlington Annual Street Fair. If that is not appealing enough...

Getting around Ballston

Ballston Reviews

Ballston is a relatively residential area that is pretty affordable given it's proximity to DC. Good restaurants and cafes, easy transit, but no loud bars or clubs. That could be a positive or negative depending on what you're looking for.
I personally like being in Arlington. Everything is walkable and while it's not DC proper, it's very easy to get into the city via metro or a quick drive in. I've run to Georgetown in 20-30 minutes. There's stuff to do and there's everything you could need: gyms, grocery stores, shopping, restaurants, bars so close by. Ballston is a hub for transport so buses and the metro abound.
It can be a little noisy if you're too close to Wilson, Glebe or Fairfax roads, especially if you're right above the bus stop like I am, but nothing light background noise can't drown out; I sleep with a fan and I sleep like a baby. The public transport can't be beat, and it seems like a new restaurant opens every day. I'm interested in looking at houses in the area when I can afford to buy!
We are right across from Ballston Quarter which has a Union Market type of food court. The area is developing so quickly, very trendy and everything is within walking distance. Even though it's very walkable it does not feel as congested as DC.
I definitely feel that it's up and coming-- so much construction and many new restaurants and shops popping up! IT's very walkable. It's also pretty safe and it's close to highways, the Potomac, to DC, etc so the location is pretty great.
I love living in Ballston. I don’t have a car and never feel like I need one. Richmond Square is a block from the metro to take me into DC, and there are plenty of places to eat and things to do right here in Ballston.
Great spot for young people. There are tons of amazing restaurants and bars nearby that you can walk to. Also only a short metro ride to DC.
It's quiet but there are plenty of restaurants/coffee shops within walking distance and will be more when Ballston Quarter opens.
