Best Bang for Our Buck

I love living at Aldercrest Apartments. My husband and I wanted something close to SU where I am a student, and needed a place that would allow 2 larger dogs. We also wanted to pay as little as possible, which included not paying for a bunch of amenities we wouldn't use. Aldercrest gave us all of these things. If you like something that feels brand-new and has a bunch of fancy features, this place is not for you. If, like us, you want something with a great location at a reasonable price that is still clean and safe, I'd highly recommend Aldercrest.

Good size, decent price for the neighborhood

The apartment and building are nice. It's a larger space than you typically see in this part of Seattle. The w/d included is a big perk and the underground parking garage is extremely helpful as street parking is hard to come by in this neighborhood.

Big Apartments for the Money

This apartment is a good value, however the location is not the best. It is convenient to downtown, but far from bars, restaurants, and grocery stores. The management company is slow to respond to issues and not very helpful. The building has underground parking, but it is an added expense and not really worth it because there is plenty of street parking.

Loud neighborhood and building

Management has had a lot of turn over but is fairly responsive. The neighborhood and building tend to be pretty loud as you have a lot of students attending Seattle U and a halfway house down the street. Also being near the hospitals creates noise as well. The building is fairly clean and well maintained. No amenities included. Pay all bills. Decent size bathrooms and rooms; living, dining and kitchen are a bit tight. Secured entry garage and building however residents will let visitors in without waiting for them to be buzzed up or asking questions.

Pros
- Close to everything--right between Capitol Hill and downtown (across the Madison Street bridge).
- Feels safe; a few blocks south, and things get a little dicier, but this is a solid, quiet neighborhood.
- Some (more upscale) grocery shopping very nearby--Stockbox (of Harborview Medical complex), etc.

Cons
- Not a totally "neighborhood" feel - Bars and shops aren't "just outside your door," for the most part. They're a medium-length walk away (e.g. to Capitol Hill). - Right next to I-5, though the noise pollution isn't that bad. - No wonderful, scenic places to walk your dogs
Pros:

+ Lots of nightlife
+ Hot new restaurants and shops open frequently
+ Extremely walkable
+ Lot of public transportation options
+ Walking distance to Downtown, SLU

Cons:
- Noisy
- Weekends bring in non-residents in droves
- Problems with homeless (though this is mostly a Seattle problem)
- Crime increasing, especially on weekends
Tends to be a bit noisy as is close to Seattle U, hospitals and halfway housing. Close to everything. Parking can be difficult. Fairly safe and close to public transportation and the new street car service that will be opening soon.
not a bad neighborhood. I appreciate the preserved historic homes and the mix of early-mid 20th century apartments. new construction is all high-rise, so it's very much a blended/transitonal neighborhood.
Pros:
Close to Seattle U/bars/restaurants
Walk to everything you need Busy and vibrant Cons: Noisy, lots of sirens Can be unsafe Very little parking
Too many homeless people.
The McDonald's on Madison seems to attract some questionable characters, but overall I still feel safe living on First Hill. There's a Bartell's (also on Madison), but if you want proper grocery shopping, you'll have to go to QFC in Capitol Hill, which is still close by. Noise levels aren't bad. Overall, First Hill is a good area to live in, and the proximity to both downtown and First Hill make it very convenient.
First Hill is a small residential neighborhood between bustling downtown and lively Capitol Hill. It's quiet, except for the sirens due to the close proximity of the hospitals. Every year, though, it seems to get more and more built up.
