Nice Quiet Communuity

I really like living in the Plaza on Dewitt. It is a nice, quiet community. A lot of senior citizens and some middle aged workers. Not a ton of students which I really like because it is quiet. Gym in the basement which is convenient.
Sometimes I can hear dogs barking, upstairs neighbor vacuuming but nothing crazy. Would highly recommend and will probably live here all 4 years.

Management is notoriously strict. Not a “fun” place to live but quiet and solid amenities

Excellent place to live

I am renting a condo here. The building is very on top of things, and I love the amenities in this building. My room gets lots of light with great views. Huge gym, beautiful rooftop/indoor rooftop, responsive management, etc. The building is older so sometimes minor plumming issues that management is very responsive to, but otherwise have loved living here. Lived here 3 years because I loved it so much.

Plaza on Dewitt- Amazing Location with Incredible Views

Location cannot be beat - right near Lake Shore Drive and easy walk to the beach in either direction. Roofdeck view is unbelievable with an amazing north facing view of the coast, southeast is Navy pier and the Ohio street beach, and the west city view is phenomenal as well. The building has a basement gym and laundry facilities. There is a LAZ owned parking garage associated with the building (very expensive).

Could be great, but management terrible

The condo building could be great — it's safe, there's a non-scary gym ($75/year) and laundry area in the basement, and the doormen and maintenance staff are awesome. And there's a cool pool and roof deck on the top floor.

BUT, there are a lot of cons to this place.
1. You have to be grandfathered in to rent the unit. So any new owners cannot rent their unit, ever.
2. The management staff is pretty terrible. There's nepotism going on + they basically dislike any residents under the age of 45. There's reverse ageism going on.
3. 80% of the residents are retired and older. Although that means it's quiet, fortunately. But if you're looking to make friends with your neighbors, it might be tough.
4. The low rise elevators break down at least once a month, and they take more than a week to fix. One time, an elevator was broken for at least 3 weeks. It makes it impossible to get down to the first floor or basement in a timely manner.
5. The management will try to fine you for pretty much anything. With the help of nosy tenants who will report you. I was even questioned in the gym if I even lived in the complex. Sorry I don't go to the gym enough for you to recognize me.
6. If you hate living in a touristy area, you probably don't want to live here.

Plaza on Dewitt

This is a great and clean building located right in the heart of Streeterville. Very convenient if you're affiliated with Northwestern. Not too much in the way of shops etc in the IMMEDIATE vicinity but you don't have to go too far. Parking is quite pricey.

thoughts on 260 e chestnut

This is a great building to live in if you're affiliated with the Northwestern Medical Campus which is just a couple of blocks away - the commute is ridiculously convenient. Socially, if you're a young professional/student there are some but not TOO many other young folks in this building. Many units are kept by older people from the 'burbs who come by on the weekends etc. I haven't had too many bad interactions with management and the "board" but I've heard that they can be difficult to deal with at times (i.e. you can't do any construction during certain times of the year etc). The building staff are very nice and the facilities are great (although I do think its odd that you have to pay an extra $75/year for the gym, its worth it).

Streeterville Reviews

Perfect location for Feinberg, almost feels like a small slice of a college town because so many of your neighbors will be students, residents, nurses, etc at the hospital. You do get sirens fairly often depending on where you live since the emergency room is very close. The neighborhood doesn't have too many restaurants/bars but it is walking distance to River North and Gold Coast and the rest of the city is easily accessed by public transport. Much safer than most neighborhoods in Chicago.
Streeterville is a very nice neighborhood. There are plenty of parks and grocery stores. There is some late night crime due to the location downtown and close to the beach, but overall nothing worse than anywhere else.

There are some more expensive restaurants and fast food places. Navy Pier attracts a lot of tourists and they can be annoying to navigate around.
I enjoy living in Streeterville since it's near many of Chicago attractions without feeling overwhelming like in the Loop. I am able to walk around safely at night and I like going jogging in Millennium Park. My biggest complaint would be the lack of greenery in the area and how the city can feel a little bit insulating at times. Public transportation is great. This area is pricey, which is why I decided to have a roommate.
The Streeterville area was still pretty sleepy when I moved here three years ago. Since then, there has been an incredible amount of development. New luxury apartments and condos are going up, several new restaurants, a brand new target and Whole Foods. Its become a great place for professionals who enjoy living downtown, but without the club crowds in River North.
There are a few buses that are near by that help get residents down to the loop. Also it's pretty easy to walk around and the cross walks are pedestrian friendly. I'm always able to get around by foot and buses/trains. Streeterville is a very safe neighborhood and I've never felt unsafe walking around at night. The streets are well lit.
Noise is not usually too big of an issue in this neighborhood; it's pretty quiet at night.
There are multiple grocery stores nearby for multiple choices. Also there are a bunch of great places to eat so one will not get bored with options.
While on the expensive end in Chicago, streeterville is safe, has all the necessities (look for apts near grocery stores if you don't have a car!!), is super close to school (and most feinberg students so convenient for socializing), and is super close proximity to restaurants and bars.
This building is located in the center of everything you could possibly need. Whole foods and Jewel within walking distance, easy to get to the lake front, and plenty of good restaurants and bars. The only down side is that it does not really have a "neighborhoody" feel.
Love how close we are to the medical school, makes going to class really easy. A lot of students live in Streeterville so it is very easy to hangout with friends. There are also a few coffee shops in the neighborhood that are very fun to study at!
