Attic in Duplex
My experience has been very good living in an attic in a duplex. They're actually very common in Cleveland and often have their own entrance and stairway. It is spacious for the price, and was just newly renovated. It's in a great area and close to school. The major negatives include not having a stove (remedied by buying a burner), having a narrow stairway, and having to buy a window AC. I would recommend living in an attic in a duplex for anyone looking for cheap rent, likes to go out, and/or not cook much.

It's an old apartment that is good for the cost, and management will make repairs and renovations as needed. That being said, Montlack Realty (different from Montlack Management) is not very responsive to repair requests and often requires persistent reminders/requests. Persistent requests have almost always led to repairs and renovations though (new tile floors in kitchen and bathroom, for example).

Lovely old building, close to school and noms
We chose this apartment based on its proximity to school- it's a ~30 minute walk, or a quick shuttle ride. Designated parking is available and fairly cheap ($50 for two tandem spots, one covered). It's a block away from some local shops and restaurants (including CHIPOTLE!) but since it's not directly off of Coventry, there's more street parking available. Due to the long layout, the apartment feels much larger than it actually is. It's an older building, so the windows are pretty crappy and the radiators are fairly large and visible, but there's also some cool architectural features such as glass cabinets in the dining room, a fireplace mantle in the living room, and a sunroom. The management company has always been helpful, and our only complaint is that rent checks are cashed at variable time intervals. Also, it's cat-friendly!
