North University

Centrally Located Neighborhood Close to Everything
If you are looking for an area that is within great walking distance of restaurants and stores, North University is the place to live. It is only about a 10–15-minute walk to campus so you should have no problems when it comes to transportation for school or any other stops in the area. The town is also notorious for its wide selection of vintage clothing stores and convenience stores. The diverse area of North University showcases a handful of enjoyable paths to go for a run or walk through the neighborhoods. Students also recommend The Crown & Anchor Pub or Mockingbird Saloon for the nightlife aspect.

North University — 8.1/10 Rating (based on 29 neighborhood reviews)
Maybe lacks some food options in the heart of it. Otherwise: it's safe. It's very residential. It's relatively flat. It's quiet. It has good areas to walk and relax, and it's not noisy in either social scenes or vehicle traffic. Love it.

I jog around here in the evenings and feel safe. Love the coffee truck and taco shop across the street. Neighbors are nice and quiet, easy access to freeways, groceries, etc.

Great walking space, neighbors are friendly. You see a lot of people out and about walking during the day and the scenery is pretty- many trees. Close by convenience store (Speedway market) is well-stocked, and local taco place Vaquero Taquero and a nearby coffee truck (2 minute walk from the apartment) are really convenient.

I live in a home triplex in North Campus. It is a 15-20 minute walk to the law school. I love living is this area because it is away from all the undergraduates, and I feel like I'm living in a mature, residential neighborhood. It is scenic and quiet. But at the same time, I enjoy the benefits of being in walking distance of the law school and campus. I would recommend this area to anyone who is wanting to rent a property but is tired of apartment-style living. It is really nice to have a house, and I pay the same in rent as most of my peers in apartment complexes.

My favorite neighborhood in Austin. Quiet, safe, central. Very walkable, quirky, very convenient. I walk to the local grocery coop (more expensive than big grocery store), coffee shops, local eateries.

I like the North University neighborhood a lot. It's centrally located, close to lots of food and grocery stores, and close to campus. However, I hear about car break-ins almost daily, and there is basically a resident peeping tom that the police seem incapable of doing anything about. All in all, North University is great for grad students who want to be close-ish to campus, but also not feel surrounded by undergrads.
