Druid Hills
"Suburban Living, Near Downtown"
Druid Hills is known as a suburb with a tight-knit community that has developed into one of the city's most prosperous neighborhoods. In the late 19th century, the designer of this neighborhood, Joel Hurt, aimed to make his creation the “perfect suburb”. Located just about five miles east of Atlanta’s downtown, it is perfect for people who seek the suburban lifestyle while being near to the city’s amenities. Residents are proud of their neighborhood and stay connected with annual traditions including a Fourth of July parade, the Annual Home and Garden Tour, and a November festival called Druid Hills Day. Walking tours by the Atlanta Preservation Center feature the “Coca-Cola mansions” and filming locations for the film “Driving Miss Daisy”. Druid Hills is also home to Emory University. The quaint Emory Village for shopping is just opposite the university’s main entrance. For outdoor recreation, there is a golf course called the Candler Park Golf Course and the scenic walking trail Lullwater Preserve.
Bars and restaurants the residents of Druid Hills socialize in include Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q, Wrecking Bar Brewpub, The Porter Beer Bar, Manuel's Tavern, and Manuel's Tavern. Druid Hills is a beautiful neighborhood - perfect for students, professionals, and families - who enjoy living a residential lifestyle while being close to Atlanta’s attractions.

Druid Hills —
8.2/10 Rating
(based on 79 neighborhood reviews)
Druid Hills is the home neighborhood of Emory, the CDC, and lots of other areas. It is also close to Midtown, downtown Decatur, Inman Park, etc. so a good time is never far away. Lots of restaurants and grocery stores. The university provides lots of activities. Plenty of parks and walking trails if you know where to look.

Very nice area! It's perfect location for being close to school/Emory during the beginning of medical school. However, if I was not in school and not raising a family, I would want to live closer to a younger social scene. It's fine for now, and maybe for the future, but I always have to find a way to get to restaurants/bars to meet my friends.

Living so only one mile away from Goizueta definitely has its perks but on Thursday nights and the weekends I end up taking Ubers to other parts of town because walking is not an option. Some of my classmates live in Virginia Highlands and Midtown and even though they are further away from campus they definitely have more lively neighborhoods. During the school week, however, I like the quiet space I have so I can put my head down, get my work done and get a good night's rest.

Safe neighborhood. Easy to walk around if you want to, but things are a little spread out, so it's not a very walkable neighborhood like a more downtown neighborhood would be.

Virginia Highland is the place you want to go if you want to have a relaxed night, or use it as a starting place for a bigger adventure. This is the closest neighborhood to school and will frequently run into classmates on the weekends. There are great restaurants and bars in the area, but it is not close to any major transportation; Uber/car is the best way to get there.

This is a great neighborhood if you attend Emory University. There are numerous grocery stores, many bars and restaurants within a short drive, and it's a pretty safe area. There can be a bunch of traffic on Briarcliff Road so if you have to go that way, budget some extra time.

We basically live right on campus, which means Emory Village is less than ten minutes away walking and all campus coffee shops and dining options are right there. For other coffee shops and bars, Decatur and Virginia Highlands are a quick drive or a cheap Uber.

Beautiful hilly neighborhood with lots of forested parks and quiet streets for runs and walks. You are a 10-15 min walk to the restaurants at Morningside and to Emory village in the opposite direction. It's not close to the beltline, Piedmont, or many of the restaurants/bars you'll find closer to Midtown, but it's quiet and good for students at Emory.

The Druid hills neighborhood is residential and you'll need a car or rideshare to get to most retail areas. It can be quite if you have good neighbors and is typically a safe neighborhood. Gables Rock Springs has experienced some break-ins over the past 6 months while I've been living there, but I don't know the circumstances and haven't experienced it myself.
