Best Deal in Durham

Partners Place offers 4bedroom apartments. Usually, two of these rooms have their own bathroom and two share one. If you can get enough roommates to fill entire apartment, it is a great and affordable option walking distance to law school (only $700 for your room with private bathroom). The common spaces are large. No pool/gym—drives the rent price down.

Big apartment with no amenities

Partners place offers a huge floor plan with no amenities other than parking. There are little to no pest issues unlike other apartments like Belmont and Heights because the management cares a lot about upkeeping the property.

Partner's place review

The apartment is great! Mine came unfurnished but there are furnished ones too. There is no gym or pool facility. No complains about the complex though, the issue is about the area outside the complex. Not safe. So i would suggest not to walk around at night.

Overall good, some potential management problems

The apartment complex as a whole is pretty good. The units are all privately owned, so what you get in terms of interior design, rent total, and property management will vary based on who the owner of your unit is. For our unit specifically, it was a great deal because it was furnished, has a washer/dryer, and is fairly inexpensive across 3 of us while still having a lot of space (all private bedrooms/bathrooms). The complex does not have any gate or security patrol, but I haven't had any issues without it nor felt particularly unsafe. Parking is always available, and the complex is right next to a Duke shuttle stop.

For downsides, since the units are privately owned, there are not any amenities that you can have at some of the other nearby complexes like a gym or pool. Additionally, it may just be specific to us, but our property manager we interact with has been pretty bad; being unresponsive, not acknowledging maintenance requests, and not fully answering our questions even when repeatedly prompted.

All things considered, this complex has worked out great for us and the positives definitely outweigh the negatives. It's a great price without sacrificing comfort or space and it is super close to West Campus which keeps us from having to pay for parking passes.

Review of partner's place

The apartment is amazing and so is the complex. Its the area outside the complex which is the issue. I suggest not to walk around in dark at all.

Decent for the Price

Pretty good price, spacious and each bedroom has it's own bathroom which is nice. It came furnished which was great. The apartment itself could use some updating, the flooring/carpeting is stained and outdated, so are the blinds (like half are broken). The kitchen appliances (microwave, stove, refrigerator) could use updating as well. The management is probably the worst thing, if anything breaks or needs repairs, it takes a really long time to get in touch with them to approve a repair. It will definitely take a lot of follow up emails to get anything repaired or set up through them. The apartment is really close to the Duke shuttle which is great.

Great for the Price

Overall this is a great place to live. Each room has its own closet and bathroom, so the only shared spaces are the kitchen, living room, dining room, and sunroom. There are in-unit washers and dryers which is also great.

If you can find people you get along with, it's a great choice! Walking distance to campus, and there is a bus stop right outside.

Getting around Erwin - LaSalle

Erwin - LaSalle Reviews

It's been perfectly fine. People are nice but it's not much of a community, just a place where people live. Behind the Belmont which had a spate of robberies a few months back, but the Flats is further away from the main road and is better lit. So far no security incidents or concerns at the Flats. Affordability depends on which apartment complex you choose in the Erwin-LaSalle area. Wide range in rents, ranging from very expensive to very affordable depending on which one you pick.
The broader neighborhood's chief attribute is convenience to Duke. A lot of students live in the apartment complexes around here. It can be inconvenient sometimes getting to a supermarket from the neighborhood, though (eventually they're going to re-open a Harris Teeter on Hillsborough, which should mitigate this issue somewhat).
The neighborhood was perfectly fine when I started living there, but recently there have been some armed robberies in apartment buildings that are about a 10 minute walk away. However, I would like to say that I have not felt unsafe walking home at night and the security at Trinity is quite high. For example, you have to use a special key to get into the lobby (where a security guard sits after dark) and then you have to use the key to get in from the lobby to where the rooms are, and then again to get into your room. There are about 10 good restaurants within walking distance ranging from greek food to Mexican food to sushi so it's great for a quick dinner when you don't want to cook. There is also a hair salon and a manicure place, as well as a Walgreens pharmacy. We are very close to Duke Hospital and the bus systems are very accessible.
The apartments are close to campus and easily accessible through bus, bike, or walking if desired. There is a nearby Kroger that is a less than 5 min drive away just up LaSalle St. Overall, there are some older apartments further up the road that have had issues with crime in the past, but The Heights and other apartments around the area seemed to be insulated from those issues.
The food in the area is really accessible and I feel quite safe in the surrounding area, excluding the gas stations and bus stop. I've heard some odd things at night but never seen anything fishy and feel safe coming home at night. +Tons of dogs!
Lofts is right next to a few restaurants - TGIFridays, Chipotle, Enzo's, Noodles, Smash Burger, Sushi Love, etc. The Kroger grocery store is just a few minutes away, off of Lasalle. This is a quiet neighborhood.
Quiet neighbourhood. Conveniently located to West Campus and walking distance to Fuqua. Easy and healthy fast food options nearby. Close to food stores e.g. Kroger & Harris Teeter. Close to WaDuke trail.
Not the safest neighborhood and has little transit. There have been issues at other apartment complexes with safety, but Heights has been very safe. It is absolutely fine to walk around in the day here, but not at night. There are not very many restaurants or bars nearby, although downtown Durham is 10 minutes away.
