About American Village
Close to downtown lies American Village, a peaceful and relaxing neighborhood with a great nature scene. American Village is quiet and a bit secluded, but still filled with destinations in the area to go to and enjoy. Walking/biking trails are always available thanks to Duke Forest and American Vil...

Good neighborhood, surrounded by other good neighborhoods. A lot of graduate students and Duke team coaches live here. A fair number of young (<10yr) kids around. A dog park and lots of pets. Forest walking trails. Occasional stolen items in cars when people leave them unlocked.
Very safe. It's full of families and kids. We got to meet a lot of families at the pool during the summer before classes.
Location is convenient to Duke's campus and the Sanford School. Also less than half a mile from a grocery store. If you're looking for a location closer to night life, restaurants, bars, etc., this isn't it. Short drive to downtown (about 10 minutes), but if you're looking to walk to downtown/9th street check out somewhere else.
Lovely people. People are always active and there is plenty of space to walk around/exercise.
The community is a mix of grad students, young couples with kids, older people, and lots of dogs, so if you don't want to feel like you're reliving your college days, this community is nice and much quieter than some of the other apartment complexes in Durham.
Great location, just a 7 minute drive to campus. Very quiet, relatively safe. Cars parked outside, so not garage-secure, but overall happy with it.
We feel very safe in this neighborhood and everyone is very friendly. We love the proximity to the forest!
5 minute drive to Fuqua/campus. Highway 15/501 is seconds away, making trips within and outside the city highly convenient. Essentially backs up to the Duke Forest with access to miles of trails.
Main downside is nothing is within walking distance (grocery, restaurants, etc.). Many people in this area bike, but be wary as there are not bike lanes.
