Quiet and cheap, but not luxurious
I enjoy my tiny little studio in River Place, since I get a cozy space all to myself. The apartment itself is nothing special; old building/facilities/kitchen, but it has enough room for my TV, a full size bed, desk, tables, etc. Electricity, water, and gas covered by the building, there is free (but slow) wi-fi, and all maintenance is free, but the temperature is building-controlled and there is no ventilation (so whenever I try to cook, there is no way to control the smoke). Otherwise, the location is blocks away from the metro/bus stops and a wide variety of walk-in restaurants, and is on the outskirts of both Georgetown and Arlington, meaning you are on the cusp of the entertaining things to do in both places.

River Place North is a gem
After suffering in unbearably tiny apartments in DC- my husband and I moved into River Place North- not only is it much more conveniently located near the metro- but it is also double the size of our last apartment for only $200 more a month. The staff are all incredibly nice, the gym is well maintained (and free) and I'm looking forward to taking a dip in the pool this weekend.
Rosslyn isn't the worlds most exciting place- but it has so much potential- and it's close to many other great neighborhoods.
I highly recommend moving there and seeing how awesome Virginia truly is!

River Place
River Place is a safe and convenient place to live with lots of amenities, including a gym, pool, door man, and on site management office. The commute via the Georgetown Shuttle is free and manageable. Having access to the metro makes it easier to explore other parts of DC and allows me to get away from campus life when I want. I recommend it to all medical students!

River Place Apartments
We really like living at River Place. That being said, we would only live here if we continued being on the top floor. The top floor affords 2 baths instead of 1, in-unit washer/dryer, and the ability to control your own heat. The gym is pretty good and there's a dry cleaner in the complex.

Rosslyn Reviews
However, this has been a business district for ages. There is very little going on around here and many of the restaurants don’t even open on the weekends. But, that’s changing. So stay tuned!
(Also, I like living in Virginia because my vote counts for more here!)
If you have long legs, renting a bike is an option. If you are like me and 5'1'', renting a bike is an option for downhill rides.
There is a lot within walking distance in Rosslyn (think 20 min average from my apt): Barnes and Noble, shopping, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's (also on the Arlington loop shuttle from GU), public libraries, CVS, Target, Safeway, lots of restaurants.
Also close to dense populations of immigrant communities if you like Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean food.
Cons: Neighborhood shuts down after 5pm. Few restaurants in the neighborhood itself (this is getting better though). Concrete canyon effect because of the skyscrapers. Closest grocery store is an expensive Safeway.
