Love living here

Great value. Really spacious and modern unit that is good for hosting friends. The one downside is that it’s a bit of a trek to campus.

Close enough!

Close enough to Kellogg Global Hub- takes about 25 minutes to walk there. The building shares a courtyard with 1717 ridge apartments, but the difference is that Sienna Court’s condos are individually owned by their landlords- so the inside of each unit is different from each other (depends on when the landlord last renovated).

Units come with parking in the garage so that’s great! Also, pets are allowed. The one thing missing is a gathering area like some of the other complexes have (club room/game room/study area/ bbq grill area/pool). Not totally necessary, but nice to have larger gatherings.

Solid Unit / Decent Access to Core & Hub

Solid apartment option that's more reasonably priced versus E2. Not a social building, but very close to E2 and the popular restaurant/bar options.

Affordability > 5 extra min walking

1720 Oak is a little further out than the more popular buildings, but it's great for access to public transportation and Evanston Rocks. Units have nice hardwood floors and include a covered, heated parking space. Mine even came with a decently sized storage unit.

Good Units, OK Building

This building is condo-owned, so units are really dependent on the owner's upkeep, recent renovations, etc. Our unit is a perfect 2BR/2BA for a couple, on the smaller end but has nice amenities like covered heated parking, spacious patios, and in-unit laundry. The building is kept well-maintained. It's a bit of a hike to the Jake and even farther to the new building, but location is great for downtown and train access.

1720 Oak Ave

Quiet, good views of downtown Chicago, and newer than most of the other condo buildings like Optima Horizons. However, this building will probably be too far away from the new Kellogg building. Biking from 1720 to the Jacobs building is fairly common. This building is very close to 27 live and to the El and Metra Davis stop. Each unit comes with free indoor heated parking and access to a small gym.

Awesome condo building next to the Metra

1720 Oak is a condo building that rents out units to graduate students. It is very close to downtown, but slightly west of it, so there is slightly less hustle and bustle than around some of the other condo buildings. The walk to class is a little longer (approx. 15 minutes) and this walk will be longer with the new business school building. There is a small gym within the building and the units come with an indoor parking space. The building was built in the late 2000s, so it is relatively new/nice. The maintenance worker Jimmy is helpful and easy to get along with. The building offers similarly nice views of downtown Chicago as other condo buildings in Evanston. 1720 Oak is right next to two other apartment/condo buildings, namely 1740 Oak and 1717 Ridge, which provides a nice cluster of Kellogg students. Last but not least, the building is right next to the Metra and "L" stops at Davis Street.

Downtown Evanston Reviews

Lots of apartments and family homes in the area. I always see someone riding their bike or walking throughout the day. It's a block from the police station, and only 2-3 blocks to downtown. Close to intercampus shuttle, 201 bus stop (3 blocks), and Dempster purple line (1.5 blocks). Nice area to live, quiet at night.
Downtown Evanston is a great place to live if you're a NU student. It's super easy to get to campus via either walking or the bus, and has convenient groceries within walking distance. The food scene is not the best, but good enough.
Evanston is the epitome of a college town, everything you need and most of what you want is within a 10 minute walk.
I really enjoy living in downtown Evanston. Everything that I need is within walking distance, and it is a 10-15 minute walk to my classes.
Safe, walkable area, even late at night depending on the streets you take. Great for convenience in terms of getting to campus, no car needed, access to many public transit options. You lose out in terms of cheap food options and fun nightlife - there are only a couple of bars open after 9PM on the weekends and for cheap food you're stuck with Chipotle or at best Tomate. But the lake and beach are within walking distance and you live close to other NU students making it well worth it for me.
Evanston really is a nice town. There's loads of food, both chains and otherwise, and a number of shops and things if you don't mind moving around a little. Driving in the greater Evanston area is not a lot of fun, I will say. I get the sense that the city doesn't much like the University and its constituents, and that the students don't always respect the city. It's not a perfect relationship, but it works. I can easily walk or take transit to class on the Evanston campus, and when I have class in Chicago I take transit, which usually takes more than an hour in the morning and close to an hour coming home.
Downtown Evanston is super cute! There are tons of restaurants and a handful of bars so I find that it offers a good bit of variety for the neighborhood size. There are street festivals, a great farmers market, summer concerts in the square and other community events I've enjoyed. Would highly recommend Evanston anyone who wants access to the city but a self-sufficient "urban burb" type neighborhood.
Pros: Great location near key Kellogg hangouts like World of Beer, Nevins, Five and Dime, Prairie Moon, etc. Also convenient to Bennison's Bakery! Great for late nights- can get home in < 5 minutes without ubering. Also near both Metra and L- ideal if you plan to spend some of your time in downtown Chicago.

Cons: Long walk from the Global hub. Closest grocery store is Whole Foods, a bit of a hike to TJ's and Jewel.
