Great

Safe, clean, quiet, close walk to the law school - just slow (or sometimes broken) elevators

Foundry

Pros - extremely safe / secure building, great view, less than 15m walk from the law school, convent location between campus and Main Street, clean facilities, awesome gym, friendly staff, not too loud, nice special break up for a studio
Cons - very expensive, no easy guest parking, resident parking is $200+ per month, elevators can be slow

Glitzy on the outside

First, the model that they show you is far far nicer than what the rooms actually look like. My apartment was full of markings on the walls, chips on the cupboards, water damage in the cabinets, bad appliances. No amount of cleaning I have done fixes some of these things. Additionally, all the rooms seem to have exposed bathroom pipes that were not in the model and so I regularly hear flushing noises at all hours of the day. It’s gross and disruptive.

Second, the management is unresponsive to needs. I told them when I signed lease that I would need to live in early and they said they would let me know when they would release those sign up dates. Surprise, they didn’t and about a week before I thought I was moving in early they said that I would have to sign an as is contract if I wanted to move in early AND pay the early move in fee (supposedly meant to cover the cleaning which they didn’t do because of the as is contract) even though it was their employees fault that I thought I was all good. I had called to confirm I was on the list 3 times in 6 months and had been confirmed each time. They also do not do anything about parking issues. My spot has been occupied multiple times by other people or residents and they refuse to tow them. Instead they told me they would try and contact them to ask them to move but that’s all.

Third, their maintenance staff regularly came and went in my apartment dispute my express instructions to not enter the apartment if I was not present. While they might officially have a right to do this under my lease, I put in the notes that I did not want them to do this and if they did I at least wanted notice that they were entering. They never listened to these instructions.

The cost is not worth it for what you actually get. Choose a different building. I have lived at the Hub and Arbor Blue and both were nicer and more responsive to issues.

Foundry Lofts

The walls are thin so I can hear other conversations that my roommate is having. You are responsible only for your lease and there are separate leases between roommates so I am not responsible for my roommate's rent if they are unable to pay. My apartment does not get very warm in the winter. There is not a lot of storage in the apartment. The building was built in the last 3-4 years. There is a gym and hot tub and some public study spaces in the building. There is a 24 hr 711 convenience store on the first floor and a sushi restaurant. There is a heated parking garage available for $250 a month, which is expensive.

Overpriced, thin walls, not worth it

The building has thin walls so noise is always an issue. I rented here because it was furnished, but the price is way too high for what you actually get. The staff are unorganized and basically a bunch of undergrads, so it doesn't feel like a building with a professional staff.

Nice property

The property is well maintained and the staff is rather friendly and helpful. Only down side is the hidden fees at the time of applying for the apartment. I had to pay extra fees for utilities management.

Good spot to live if you want to be downtown

Close proximity to all bars and restaurants in downtown Ann Arbor and ~15 min walk to Ross. There's a decent amount of undergrads that live in the building; however, the apartments are pretty quiet and it's nice to be able to get away from everything. The management is run by undergrads but they're very on top of it and easy to work with. The apartments are in great condition (new appliances, fully furnished, etc.), have high ceilings, and are pretty spacious. There's also a 7-11 that's connected to the building which is incredibly convenient. Lastly, my apartment is on the side of the building, so I don't get much sunlight. Other apartments do though. Also, I've been told for apartments that are right above the hot tub/rooftop, tenants can often hear people on the roof, so just something to be aware of as well.

Foundry Loft Review

Foundry is close enough to the school where I'm not stressing on time if I'm behind schedule. Normally a 15/20 minute walk depending on pace, and 25 if carrying more than two casebooks. I like the fact that utilities is only electricity. Aside from that, Foundry is the only high rise which has three study areas. The only downside is that the windows do not open.

Foundry Lofts has the optimal location next to all the cute restaurants and bars.

Foundry Lofts has been great. They hold packages and often bring them up to the room.

The parking is an extra fee and pretty expensive - $250/month.

review

- elevators are constantly broken
- water pressure is decent
- walls are super thin
- gym is convenient
- they price in installments which is not equivalent to months - you end up paying 13 installments over the course of 12 months. this increases the perceived monthly rent price

About Old Fourth Ward

Old Fourth Ward was one of the first residential areas in Ann Arbor. While keeping its old-town feel, the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood is now also a modern spot that many students call home. For bars, there is the Italian styled Mani Osteria and Bar. Another place to visit is Bar Louie, an upbeat b...

Half a mile from the law school, right next to Kerry Town (farmers market, great grocery store and shops), quiet side of town (not near all of the undergrad bars) good walking distance from both Main Street down town and state street activities
Absolutely love Kerrytown!! Still close to the hospital but you get the added benefit over White Coat of being close to cute kerrytown shops and farmer's market as well as having a shorter walk to general downtown Ann Arbor. I definitely will be staying in Kerrytown all 4 years of medical school!
Close to school, hospital, and downtown. Very safe
I love this area. It's also called Kerrytown - Old 4th Ward is just more specific to my block I guess? It's a quiet residential area. I live right across from city hall and down the street from the fire department so I feel very safe. I've never heard a party! It's just a short walk from the Kerrytown market and some great restaurants by it. Also a quick walk from downtown where all the good nightlife is in my opinion as well as state street where there is a CVS and Walgreens. I'm also 2 blocks from a 7-11.
It is less than 10min walk from Ross campus and less than 5min walk from everything else. Walking distance to the central bus station (Blake Bus Interchange) and downtown area. You can take a bus from the bus stop outside the lobby to go to Meijer or Target.
It's Liberty, for what it's worth. Necto and Skeeps can be pretty loud on weekends, so sometimes need an earplug to sleep. Sunlight is bad. Easy to get to bars/restaurants and to the school.
Farmer's market, small cafes, everything you want and close to the main downtown too. Not too loud but still a lot going on (more graduate students than undergrads)
Everything is close, including convenience stores, restaurants, skeeps, bars, and everything for social lives. The only thing is that gyms are not close, though.
