University Village Apartments reviews and highlights
- well-maintained and spacious apartments
- conveniently located 15 minutes from the airport and from Santa Monica Beach
- best option for families and married couples
- great place with an affordable price
- love the BBQ areas
Excellent value
You won’t find a better deal on the Westside. The grounds are nicely maintained/landscaped. The units are not fancy but have all the basics.

Best deal in West LA
Hard to imagine better value for the space anywhere in West LA. Also nice to be in a community of other graduate students.

Great except the parking
The apartment is really nice. For $1775 I can’t believe we can have a two bedroom two bath apartment. Having two rooms and two bathrooms is amazing and definitely worth the extra money (although we didn’t choose that initially, I’m glad they chose that for us). There isn’t an elevator which I thought was weird, but that hasn’t been that big of a deal. My only complaint is the parking. It feels unreasonable to me that only one of us gets a parking spot even though there’s two people living in this apartment, and we got the blue parking permit but the spots are nowhere near our apartment so it’s not even usable. I know this isn’t feasible at this point but it would’ve been a better idea to build a parking lot instead of garages in order to make more space for cars. My husband parks on the street and has gotten five parking tickets because the rules on the street are so random (which I know isn’t the schools problem). Anyway, overall I recommend.

Excellent Value, Simple Process
This is a UCLA managed complex for grad students who are married or have kids. I got on the wait list for it in April before starting 1L and was matched in an apartment shortly after with a July move in date. This eliminated all my housing stress, as I didn’t have to do any housing search. The rent is well below market rate in a nice neighborhood.
Very friendly complex, lots of couples with young kids.
It’s about a 30 minute bus ride to campus on either the Culver City or Santa Monica buses, both of which run frequently.

Student housing
It's extremely close to the freeway, but it's a great value.

This is UCLA's Family Housing option. If you have kids, a spouse, or a S/O that you've lived with for a while, you can qualify to live here (the Housing website has info on that).
The apartments are cute. They aren't huge, but we have enough space for everything. My unit has new vinyl (fake wood) floors which look nice and are easier to clean than carpet. The kitchen and bathroom are outdated with old wooden cabinets, but they aren't too bad. We have two free parking spaces. One is in our own garage and the second one is in a big parking lot which is not very close to our unit. We had to wait about four months for the second parking space to become available after moving in in July. These apartments aren't perfect, but management has been responsive to the things we've brought to their attention.
I'm from LA, and I would not know where to find such a nice apartment with such a short commute for the price. This is a good place to live and we've saved a lot of money by living in student housing. I definitely see myself staying here for three years.

Decent Housing for Below-Market Rent
The best part about university housing is the below-market rent. My spouse and I otherwise would not have been able to afford a two-bedroom. The neighbors are friendly and helpful, and maintenance always responded promptly. Apartment was clean and amenities worked. It's a ways away from campus for but not bad for L.A.

Review
Apartments are clean and fairly well-maintained. Good location near transit that can take people to campus. The university should take all steps possible to keep rents stabilized - or even lower than what they currently are - if feasible. Yes, the rent is quite good for the area, but the reality is that nobody would live here if it weren't for the fact they need to attend campus (and need to be in close proximity for convenience). We are bound to the West LA area because the campus is there, and trying to get through traffic every day from a further region of the city is impractical and unrealistic to ask of the majority of students. The vast majority of us have taken out loans to help pay for housing, and this needs to be fully acknowledged and acted upon by the university (by taking all measures to keep rents low, low, low).

Perfect place to live with a Sig-O and/or family
We'd be paying double for the amount of space and quality of the apartment anywhere else in this area. Highly recommend applying for UV housing and crossing your fingers that you get a good lottery number.
