Mesa Nueva Review
Great space, steep price.

Good property but expensive for incoming students
Although there is limited space for storage, it is quite cozy and comfortable. Unfortunately, we live near the Medical center so there might be ambulance/helicopter/jet noises in the middle of the night. I live right above the pool/bar area and it's noisy until 10:30 pm. However, there is ample public transport and with a bike you should be able to reach most of San Diego/La Jolla.

Good affordable graduate housing
The apartment was furnished but the room sizes were small although this was not a dealbreaker for me. The apartment is located conveniently close to UCSD and is cheaper compared to other places nearby. You have to apply for graduate housing after you accept your UCSD offer, so if you are not early you might not get a room. The rent increase is also capped at 3% per year due to UCSD rules and you get to live in a community with other graduate students.

Very nice experience
I live in a studio home in Mesa Nueva Cresta. It's ideal for me. It's close to most other graduate housing complexes, and also close to the campus and La Jolla Village Sq., which makes shopping/going out for food easy. We have a community pool outside which is never too crowded, but if you would like to swim in the ocean, the Scripps Pier is still a bus ride away. You will probably feel less isolated here than Coast aparments if you're new. The room is also furnished, and most of what you get as furniture are pretty solid. The fridge is very large and gives you the opportunity to cook ahead and store everything. The size of the room is not very large, but for one person I think its ideal. I've also seen many couples share a studio room, so I think two people can also live comfortably.
Very rarely we get some maintenance issues like the internet being down or slow for a while, or water being shut off for a while, but these are always planned and you will be notified. For the most part the room is bug-free, common house flys and mosquitos are a non-issue thanks to the window design, but every once in a while a little silverfish crawls out of somewhere in the bathroom. Maybe it's only for my apartment, and they're harmless and all, but get ready to kill it if that happens.
