Overall great place!

I love everything about this apartment except valet. The building is quite modern, is kept very clean, and there are plenty of utilities including a gym and a rooftop pool where I go to study sometimes. I also love that the front desk receives packages for me and keeps them secure until I can pick them up. Quite a few packages get stolen off of doorsteps in New Orleans. The building is also very secure as you need a key to enter the building and the front desk is staffed 24/7. The building is also made of concrete, meaning the walls are very thick. I have had my neighbor tell me that she plays music quite loudly very often and to feel free to let her know if it's ever too loud, but I have never heard anything despite sharing a wall. I read good opinions about valet before I moved in, but I have had some bad experiences with them. While not ideal I don't mind this too much as I simply don't use valet anymore.

A little pricey but worth it in my experience, especially if you can find a roommate to split the rent with.

Although living here is more pricey than many other places, it comes with many amenities and perks which I thoroughly enjoy. It is located about two blocks away from the medical school and there is valet parking, so I never have to worry about traffic or parking. Parking downtown New Orleans can also be quite expensive, so it saves me money there. There is also a lounge that I study in sometimes that is usually very quiet and comfortable, a small gym and a pool on the roof. This is also a very safe and secure place to live which should not be taken for granted in this city. All of my packages are received by the building so I have never had anything stolen, unlike in other places I've lived in in the city. There is also a 24/7 front desk, which makes the building very secure. Also, in my experience there is almost always a handyman on call, so if anything breaks it is fixed within a few days.

Solid location worth the price

1201 Canal is located conveniently walking distance to school and the French Quarter. The building has complementary parking which is different from other buildings downtown that charge extra for parking. A car is an absolute must for med school. The building has a gym and pool/jacuzzi as well. There is also complimentary coffee available in the building. Covid has restricted of these things but after the pandemic they should be fully available again. In terms of maintenance they will handle most issues withing 2 hours.
