Terrible place but good location
Rockland might be a good place if you do not spend much time at home. the location is good as it is on a walking distance to campus, has a bus stop in front of the property and has supermarkets and restaurants around the corner. Besides that the place is terrible. The price is higher than other places, maintenance will take months to reach you unless it represents a threat to the unit, services like trash collection and internet to not work consistently and the furniture provided is below average. If your research does not requires you to move to anoher country, just live in a different place.

Disappointing
From the moment I got there, the apartment was filthy. They claim to clean between residents, but I have never seen this level of filth. Body fluids on the bathroom floor, the carpet had probably NEVER been vacuumed, and general stickiness and residue on appliances and surfaces. You pay $10 per month, mandatorily, for trash pickup and it comes maybe half the time. You cannot opt out, either. You pay and they come when they feel like it. They aren't respectful of privacy - instead of having a convo with you about when they plan to enter, they come and go as they please. Apartment has very little storage space - no closets, except for the bedroom closet. The pool and hot tub are almost never available to use. There have been two shootings in 6 months. They have a security gate that's supposed to be closed at night, but they don't ever close it. It smells like weed all the time. Most of the amenities that would attract one to this apartment are unavailable. Please read the google reviews before moving here.

Rockland pros and cons
The two points that led me to choose this place are the location and furniture. The apartment is well located as it has supermarkets and restaurants on a walking distance which is good particularly on Sundays when there are no buses running. There is a bus stop just outside the property and campus is also on a (quite long) walking distance. Also, as an international student without a car, having a furnished apartment helps even though the furniture is very basic. Since my research field requires me to leave the country often, it was cheaper than paying for a storage or buying new stuff every time I returned. However, besides that, this place is terrible. Rent and electricity are expensive, staff is not helpful, third-part services like trash and internet does not work all the time and the staff will say you need to contact them directly to solve your problem, and maintenance and cleaning is very poor. I found a very dirty apartment with pet excrement everywhere when I moved in and the best the staff can do is "lend you cleaning material". I am focused on finishing my degree and getting out of here as soon as possible, so this works for me. But if you want to enjoy your student life or if your field does not require you to move abroad frequently, I would recommend looking for another place.

Furnished apartment close to west campus
Good apartments, close to many grocery stores and restaurants, bus stop right outside to get to main campus, walking distance from west campus. Rent a little on the higher end, but preferable if looking for furnished apartment.

Close to the bus stop, but that's all.

Ok place to live
The Rockland is a pretty decent place to live. The outside of the buildings were redone and the actual apartments are nice inside. I really like how the units come with an in unit washer/dryer and furnishings. The only complaint I would have is that the parking lots are full of pot holes and the grass is not always mowed. Overall, its close to campus and you get what you pay for.

Decent but there are better options
I moved into the Rockland because I did not have any furniture of my own and was relocating from Chicagoland to Lawrence. The Rockland has a great offering of furniture that is included in the rent and the amenities such as the granite countertops and modern appliances are nice. But beyond that there is a lack of maintance of the units and the staff seems generally unaware of issues within the units.
When I moved in my apartment was not cleaned, the previous tenant had extensively damaged the walls and doors and when I brought this up to the staff on move-day they seemed surprised that the unit was in this condition. Things have gradually gotten better, but overall I am disappointed in the experience at the Rockland. If you are looking for apartments around this price-point, look elsewhere.

Rockland
I’ve had a really great experience at the Rockland. It’s very close to campus and easy to get to the parking garages near the law school. There’s also a Starbucks & Dillons right next to the complex. I also like that they offer leases less than 12 month (you just pay like $100 more per month for the shorter leases). The office staff is friendly and maintenance has always responded to requests promptly. In my building, there’s ample parking, and none of my neighbors are noisy ever. There’s also options to have a furnished apartment. For your dogs, there’s a small dog park on-site. The only downside is that the units have VERY little storage space. Overall, would definitely recommend.

Above Average
Great except the trash valet service doesn’t come every day that they’re supposed to.

Good Environment Overall
Amenities and living quarters are good. We've had some issues with neighbors partying too loudly and people stealing our packages, which management has done nothing about. Otherwise, I'd love to give a higher rating.
