Great building, management, little issues
I've lived at 717 for almost a year now. I attend grad school at USC and 717 is perfectly located in downtown where I can grab one of three bus routes that come a block away from my apartment and be on campus within 15 minutes. I enjoy the building. In particular, Hector and Mary at the front desk are a joy. Guest parking is usually available and easy to use. The amenities are nice and rarely busy. My unit is great, appliances are good quality (though I must admit, I don't cook much), and maintenance responds to typical unit concerns quickly (light bulb out, sink clogged, etc). I very rarely hear other units or noise from my apartment, other than the sirens and cars peeling off from outside my window (I am on 12th floor, but it's downtown, can't avoid that). As with all apartments, some things go wrong. One of the two elevators goes down sometimes, but it's never been a real issue. My biggest concern is how high my trash bill is each month ($85+) which brings my utilities (excluding Wi-Fi, which is billed separately) to over $200 each month for a 1bed. Water/water heating have also been incredibly high before, and water is not independently metered so I can't do anything about it.

Great units and location
My unit is spacious and great and the location is perfect downtown next to lots of hotels, bars, restaurants, grocery stores within walking distance. Building is right next to LA Live and the big Marriot hotels, which tends to be a safer area.
The building itself has all the amenities you can ask for, but for the price I pay I wish the management company cared more. There are some issues with the elevators, mail system is outdated, etc. but otherwise great amenities! Small pool, gym, big amenities deck, grills, rooftop area.

Went from 5-stars to 1-star
I loved living at 717 Olympic because it's very close to campus but had great staff and fantastic amenities. The new management company is horrible and many longterm residents have since left and are no longer tenants.

RUN from the new management company
Wonderful building located right by Staples center; very walkable; soundproof walls; extremely private; great security; lots of celebrities live here (Lakers and Clippers players, some hip hop and rap artists, etc.), and everyone in the community is extremely nice and respectful. It was worth the cost to live here. However, the building recently sold and the owner got a new management company that has been absolute hell. A living nightmare. Since then, there has been a steady stream of residents leaving including myself. Don't live here.
