Expensive but if you can afford it, totally worth it.
I have lived here for 3 years and it is amazing. I live above a Safeway so I never have to worry about going to the market. There's plenty of places I can walk and public transportation is also easy. Additionally, there is a 24-hour fitness gym within walking distance.

Everything is nearby! Museums, theater, symphony, restaurants, groceries, campus, transit! No need for a car!
Close to transit (and this complex is next to PSU which is close to a stop for the Pioneer Shuttle)
Essex House is close to a Safeway, right next to Keller Auditorium, a short walk from the river, quiet during the day but even quieter at night since it's in the business district, near the courts/city hall/federal building, and next to the police stations, which I guess makes it a safe area.
Downtown is a great place to live. It's easy to get anywhere in town on public transit and there is lots to do.
University Pointe is across the street, and the line of food trucks is SO close. But you do hear the MAX running at night, but it's a relatively safe location. I haven't had any problems.
Great businesses and access to transit. But don't always feel safe walking around, especially at night.
