A little off the beaten path, but quiet and affordable

Great apartment complex for people looking to be a little bit away from 9th street. Apartments are new and well maintained and the location is only 5 minutes away from Trader Joes or Target, and about 8 minutes away from Duke.

Great apartment

We moved in a few months ago and really like it. The kitchen is really spacious and user-friendly, which is something that my roommate and I prioritized when looking for a place. The management was extremely helpful in the initial leasing process, and were willing to work with us even though our schedules were very busy. I feel very safe in this complex and everyone is pretty friendly!

Beautiful apartments, new management

The apartments and grounds are really lovely and only a couple years old, though you can tell that some of them were built hastily in order to move people in. Awesome pool, but tends to have a lot of frat boys on the weekend. New management company will hopefully be more professional than the last - they just took over in July, so much is still up in the air. There is a couple that runs social events for the place (doggie happy hours, movies at the pool, ice cream socials) who are very kind, but they are sponsored by a Christian organization which is a little weird for a non-religious company. Parking is not reserved which is hard if you work nights. A girl got robbed once by some people who followed her into the complex, but other than that I find it very safe. I wish you could opt out of the $25/month valet garbage service, but I suppose it is a nice benefit (except when the garbage piles up outside the dumpster over the weekend and starts to smell - again, college kids). There's a bus stop on the property.

Perfect if you don't want to be right next to campus

We love Realm Patterson. It's a hidden gem (new complex) half way between Durham and Chapel Hill. The units are stunning and it's very cheap. The pool and gym look like a spa. Lots of families and dogs. Hiking trails in the back, dog park, playground. Not a huge Fuqua contingent (I think there's somewhere between 5-10 of us) but that's been really nice for us. Highly recommend if you don't mind being about a 10 minute drive from Fuqua. There are a lot of good restaurants but nothing is within walking distance. Good news is, uber is cheap!

Realm Patterson Place

This place is newly built in June.2014.
It's nice and quiet, probably good for family-oriented person.
Kroger and Walmart is 3 minutes away and takes 12 minutes to get to Fuqua.

Great value for commute

It's a 10 min drive from school, but it's quiet, new, friendly staff, nice clean apts and amenities, and probably half of what you would pay for the same space near school. Worth it for me and my fiancée.

South of Fuqua

We have both enjoyed living in our apartment. My wife works from home and it was the only property with 3 bedrooms that we could find. The finishes are nice and they allow large dogs (breed restrictions and weight limit). The downside is that we can't walk to dinner and we're far from where the majority of social events are held. Overall, if you prefer a more relaxed environment this is the place for you.

Getting around Chapel Hill

It's very quiet: mostly graduate students and some families. Very convenient for getting to McColl. It is tucked away in the corner of campus so if you want to walk anywhere, it takes about a mile to get into campus. I would recommend having a car for this neighborhood since there are no grocery stores within walking distance.
Love being right on Franklin street. Walking distance to football games and tailgates as well as restaurants and bars on Franklin.
Lots of food options around the building. I regularly walk my dog in the area around the apartment.
The neighborhood is mostly for other UNC students.
Carrboro is really cool, if slightly offbeat place to be. Weaver St Market and a bevy of other restaurants/smaller places make it a good food hub. For things going on, there are things like the Carrboro Arts Fest, weekly "Carrboro Street Markets" with lots of vendors, and a flurry of other community-oriented activities.

Have enjoyed my time there.
Lots of stores, gym in neighborhood, church, groceries--basically a little town. Con is that it almost feels a bit "Pleasantville." That said, the Walmart up the road (<2 min) is wonderful as is Fig & Honey and the huge Harris Teeter (<5 min away) in Chatham county. Families and children amidst Med School students and retirees. Great feeling, awesome convenience to UNC and downtown CH. Highly recommend.
Neighborhood feels super safe. Little kids will like the playground on-site. Lots of friends for them to play with. Elementary school (Glenwood) is awesome, if not old. Plenty of community events to meet people and for kids to play. I like it here, and recommend it to most people.
The neighborhood is very convenient for business grad students, however, it is far from everything else. You need to get a car for everything, except going to school. It still compensates, given that uber is cheap in the region and the convenience to go to school is amazing.
